Official Georgia Tech 2013-2014 EA Discussion Thread

When i log into Buzzport i get access denied to my application quick view! Anyone else having this sort of problem?? I can log in normally and i see that im successfully logged in.

Nevermind, all is good now :)

Daughter received an email instructing her to activate her Buzzport account, but when she tries it returns an error message. Anyone else having this problem?

UnseenU, I am having the exact same problem with your daughter!

Haha guys I submitted mine Sunday night you guys wont seem last minute at all! Good luck to everyonee
I hope we all get accepted early :)

On my buzzport, it shows all of my documents submitted except for my writing supplement, which I submitted at the same time as my regular application. I’m assuming that it just hasn’t been processed yet
Has anyone had something similar happen?

Same happened to me, read earlier ^. Just wait it out don’t worry.

I’ve a question, i kinda missed something on the current year courses section, but I’ve already submitted my app. I’ve emailed them asking whether im allowed to change the information or not but they still haven’t replied yet. Anyone in a similar situation? If so what did you do? Any help would be appreciated

Has anyone uploaded their transcripts and rec letters through Naviance? How long did it take?

^the school does it for you, so you don’t have to worry about it if you’re using Naviance

I already uploaded them, I was just wondering how long it takes. Also, does it make a difference in terms of admissions if you are out of state?

^MichiganGeorgia and Parallelism, thank you. Daughter double checked with her counselor today. Counselor confirmed that this school does submit the transcript online to the common app with the school report, so it only needs to be done once for all schools taking the common app, which seems a good way to do it to me. Neither the report or transcripts are showing as received by GT yet though. Given GT’s notification of delays I guess we’ll wait another week or two before panicking.

I have an important question

On my Buzzport account, my admission type is “Regular Freshman”. Do you think this is a mistake or did my application not make it on time for early action?

And btw, my Oct SAT score ended up as a 2330, now what are my chances for merit scholarships?

Regular Freshman is correct

@May2013SAT Really? Thank goodness, I would have been so mad if my decision had come in March when I had applied for early action

Can someone tell me whether it matters if you are in state or out of state? (in terms of admissions)

“The Georgia Institute of Technology is a public institution that receives funds from the State of Georgia.”

So yes I believe it does matter. I believe 50 - 55% of the students are in state.

However if you are a top student you will get in. I think it matters when all other things are equal between and in state and an out of state applicant.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn’t it make sense for public schools to accept more out of state students, since they’re paying almost double the tuition? I heard that that was a big problem going on with the UC’s

Look I can’t say for sure if it matters if you are in state or not. Georgia tech is not one of the schools that is having money problems. I believe there are colleges that are bringing in more out of state kids for the money. However some colleges like University of Michigan are increasing the out of state tuition rates to subsidize the in state students. Again as long as you are a top student you will get in. But I don’t think at GT they are going to look at two equal students and say “oh lets take the out of state one because we will get more tuition dollars”. I think however given everything being equal they may say “Oh kids from that high school do really well here
” That’s just my opinion though. Plus remember my DS is a freshman at GT and we live in Georgia so my view may be off.:)

It depends. I heard that in the 80’s Georgia tech had political pressure to admit students that were instate. It’s a public state school so it’s primary objective is to educate the workforce for Georgia. However as you said the UC’s wanted to admit more out of state students to make more money. When I had heard that though I thought it was somewhat of an anomaly because usually I hear that it’s easier to get into a state school when you’re instate.

GT does consider state residency.

Table C7 list what GT considers and if it’s “Very Important”, “Important”, “Consider” or “Not Consider”. State Residency is listed as “Important”. For Fall 2012, 51% of undergrads where in-state, 34% OOS and 14-15% “Foreign Countries”.
