***Official Georgia Tech Class of 2019 EA Applicant Thread***

@corpcomp, whatdo you mean when you say the classes are curved? Thanks

I mean that where the average grade on a test in a class is 50 out of 100 (which happened in Calculus II), 50 may represent a C while someone with a 70+ gets an A. My son went into a CS Java final with an 80. Even though the final was only worth 25%, meaning if he got a 100 on it, his best overall score would only be an 85 which is normally a B, he ended up with an A. Some classes, not many, have extra credit assignments also. But the tests are very hard. At a top tier technical school like GT they want to really challenge the students, which is a good thing. Those with a 4.0 any semester are recognized by being given Faculty Honors for that Semester. You want something like that on your transcript.

Only downside so far is that the cafeteria food is not anything to write home about, although they just opened up a Panda Express at Christmas. The North Avenue dining hall which is the newest has about 7 different food stations with different types of food (Southwestern at one, Asian at another, sandwiches at another, etc,) And considering this is the Peach state, they do not serve peaches in the dining halls. Go figure. But there is a Rays NY Pizza place in tech square and that is a favorite hangout. Then there is the Vortex which is a biker themed eatery. A bit edgy but fun. Sorry for the rambling.

Grading on a curve http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grading_on_a_curve

This is my son’s second year. While some of his classes have been curved in his case a lot of them haven’t been. It all depends on the prof. I think some of the weed out classes are curved , for example I believe his Calc III class was curved.

I would agree about the food. He didn’t like it at all. He’s not a big guy but he lost around 15 pounds his first semester. I definitely lost money on that all you can eat plan. Now he’s in an on campus apartment so he cooks for himself.

@corpcomp thanks a lot for your answer!
I sure shall get my scores in.
Although, I would love to get in, I’m not really sure If I want to go there.(options open of course)
I’m planning to major in CS and University of Waterloo just seems like the place to be.( if they admit me obviously)

PCMguy, good luck with your decision. My son is also in CS and is specializing in Devices and Media.

How many students are accepted to the honors program?

Has anyone gotten the acceptance package in the mail yet?

I didn’t get an invitation email to the honors program. What do I do?

does anyone know if the honors program is binding?

About 120 students are in the honors program out of about 2800. Re binding, not sure but it really is not that difficult. You are assigned either Perry or Matheson dorm the first year with all the other Honors students and then can move elsewhere in the Sophomore year. Considering it goes on your transcript, I would not turn it down. You take I think three core honors courses and then a few more electives.

So last week we rec’d an email that stated that Presidential scholarship decisions would be released today, then during the week came the invite to the honors program which you must be admitted to to be considered for the President’s scholarship…color me confused. Also, when are the Provost’s scholarship decisions released? Are there unnamed merit opportunities as well?

My son is IS, so they had GaTech admissions reps deliver acceptance packages in person this week to a whole group of students accepted from his school, they also encouraged them all to apply to Honors and the new leadership program.

Good luck to everybody today with PS decisions!

Got the PS email at noon today… didn’t get in

me neither, i wasn’t expecting it

My son got his invite to the semifanalists round! Email came around noon!

No president’s for me. When do they do Provost’s? I thought it was today but I didn’t get anything, and since they email rejections and acceptance about Presidential I’d assume it’s the same with Provost’s. I’ve basically given up on GT since I can’t get president’s, Provost’s is my only chance.

@bailey7cw‌ It says on their website that GT will not notify you if you are not accepted into Provosts

“When will Provost Scholars be selected and notified?
Students will be notified via email within two weeks of admission decision release for both the Early Action and Regular Decision application rounds. Students who are not awarded will not be contacted.”

We have the same question. Has anyone been notified that they will be offered Provosts scholarship yet?

@d0texe thank you! If anyone is notified they should post and let us know
