***Official Georgia Tech Class of 2019 EA Applicant Thread***

Anyone give me my odds?

Applying regular decision
1800 SAT
3.69 and a 4.25 for the GPA’s
4 Ap’s
plat 2 in league
EC’s: Varsity Lacrosse/Debate/JSA and like 280 SSL hours
Amazing recs/internships
Applying for the business school

The 1800 is a bit low versus most others. The 25th percentile SAT for the Class of 2014 was 2050 (average was closer to 2120) and the number of APs at the 25th was 6. But my kid only had 4 APs so that is really not a key indicator and sports and community activities does help and will actually be more valuable getting into the Honors program than grades. Good luck.

Does anyone know when we get acceptances for Grand Challenges and the Honors program?

March 9 for the Honors program. Do not know the other.

Based on recent data from the school, 40% of the early action kids that accepted are female, a record. Average SAT was 2190 (1488 for Math and Reading) , ACT was 32 and the average number of APs was 10. 43% of all applications were early action and this year was another record for applications, 27,250, making it much harder to get in than in the past. More to come re regular action.

Georgia Tech also has the smartest athletes in the country - see the link: http://nique.net/news/2014/04/18/tech-athletes-score-higher-on-sat-scores-than-peers/

President Obama is speaking at Georgia Tech March 10. My son said the line for tickets was blocks long. GT President Bud Peterson was appointed by President Obama to a national advisory committee on advanced manufacturing along with Presidents from MIT, UCal and Carnegie Mellon and likely got him to come. President Peterson is fantastic and was the Provost at RPI previously and Chancellor at U of Colorado. . The school get huge amounts of money for research. What a great place to go to school! And little to no snow.

My son was lucky enough to get a ticket! So exciting!

For those of you who visited the campus, what did you guys think about it? How’s the student life on campus?

TodaysEinstein: There are tons of things to do on campus per my son. The campus is not a typical Harvard / Princeton style campus, it is more advanced research types of buildings. The school just reach $1.5 Billion in a donation program and is about finishing a new Engineered Biosystems Building and are starting a Golf course this Spring! They are also planning a High Performance Computing Center in Tech Square, a 20 story building. Their CRC, the rec center, is the most advanced in the country and all major NCAA swim events take place there. There are at least 14-15 intramural sports at any one time using the rec center. And the variety of food places to eat is great. But there is no question the work level is very high / heavy in the tech areas. If you are going there primarily to enjoy the social life, don’t. Go to UGA instead. If you want to learn cutting edge stuff, get a good job offer at a named tech company, then its the right place.

Tedysmom: Yeah my son also got a ticket. I encouraged him to go even though he has tests this week. He took a pic of the line which went around the mall and up past the student center. Thousands of kids are going. Of course if the tickets were not free, the line would be shorter. Haha. Just bummed that they indicated no umbrellas and backpacks through security. Its supposed to rain that day so hope he does not get soaked. And he is very much looking forward to Spring Break next weekend as his 2nd round of tests are all this coming week. He is going to Barcelona for Summer studies as part of the international program for CS majors.

Anyone get an email for Honors and/or Grand Challenges?

Still waiting

still waiting ^

The Honors page indicates they are sending out decisions on a rolling basis starting today so its going to take a while to notify everyone. Anticipate about 130 out of 2800 will get into the Honors program so its very tight.

Ugh waitlisted for GC T.T

Does anyone know what the likelihood of getting into GC off the waitlist is?

same waitlisted

Is this just a nice way of saying “no way you’re getting in bub”?

got waitlisted for GC, not heard yet about the HP

I got in the Honors program. Sadly, I don’t think that the financials are going to work out for me.
