***Official Georgia Tech Class of 2019 EA Applicant Thread***

@‌Rdtsmith
Personally I think GT OOS tuition is as cheap as it can be without room for more merits. Compared to UMich’s 41k a year I’m super content with GT.

When do we find out our decisions for GT?

Current Tech student here,

To those of you that feel like there test scores may be sub-par compared to everyone else, know that you do stand a chance. Believe it or not, Tech does look at its applicants holistically. I had a 31 ACT and no SAT II tests. to show off When I posted in the class of 2018 applicant thread, people told me I didn’t stand too much of a chance, so I was very discouraged. I ended up getting deferred early action and had pretty much given up hope. If you end up getting deferred, understand that it does not mean that you will not be attending the institution. When regular decision came around, I ended up getting accepted. It can happen, it does happen. Just make sure you show the admissions office that you haven’t been wasting your first semester of your senior year. Good luck to all!

Do you guys think the 60.2% acceptance rate from last year for early acceptance remain about the same for this year?

@istealhome‌ I sure hope so.

Last years EA acceptance rate was 40% 5000 accepted out of 14k applicants. The 60% may be from the year before. <a href=“5,000 Students Offered Early Action Admission to Tech | News Center”>http://www.news.gatech.edu/2014/01/06/5000-students-offered-early-action-admission-tech

Does that mean 20% this year? :((

@seamon Unlikely. Last year’s decline was due to large increase in applicants. It was Tech’s first year with the common app. This year they received a little less applications EA. My guess is it will be similar, but they will probably be conservative as they ended up with a larger than desired freshman class. (i.e. they had to turn some lounges into dorm rooms)

True GT is super affordable but go look at the threads for last year…many, many were shocked at not getting OOS merit aid or very little…and many did lament they couldn’t afford it after finding that out. Me personally it’s the cheapest school my S is applying to, so I can agree that it’s not expensive!

I don’t think it’s super affordable… It’s like $40,000 OOS!!! And they offer very little financial aid. If I get into stanford, I will get $55,000 financial aid. I will get like $5,000 at GT

@imagineer10‌
I understand you, since everyone comes from different backgrounds. But considering that it is a public school funded by Georgian taxpayers, I’d even speak against giving OOS students financial aid, because that’s not fair. Even though I’m from California and won’t get aid as well. But regardless, good luck of getting in and don’t ever let money change your mind!

Believe me, I won’t! I am going where I know I will be happy! If I have some debt, I’ll have some debt. The return on investment is so great at GT that am 100% confident that I will be successful!

Well… Based on the email GT just sent me, we will know our decision at 12pm EST on Saturday, January 10th.

Yup. Guess we all got the email. One month to go… can’t wait to find out!!

Me too! Love Georgia Tech. And Emory too to a lesser extent :stuck_out_tongue:

Less than one month now oh boy…

I’m sure this is getting annoying by now but if someone could chance me I would really appreciate it!

Do you guys think there’s a chance we’ll be notified of decision before the 10th? Also are we notified through Buzzport or email?

I think all the decisions come out on the 10th at 12 pm. And I believe it’s by BuzzPort in the status section. My sister applied two years ago and I think that’s how it happened.

Does anyone know how the Honors program works? What kind of stats do you need to be in it? Are you automatically considered with your application or is there an additional application? When are the accepted honors applicants announced?
