Teacher/Counselor Recs: Didn’t read, but I submitted my math/english teachers (can’t remember if Georgia let you sub two- if it was only one, it was math). Math teacher is ex professor from NCSU, and happened to like me a lot. Had him for Calculus ABBC, and have him for multivariable/diffeq. English is new, but she liked me a lot as well. Counselor doesn’t know me well at all, but we sat down for a 30 minute interview for my rec, and I think she probably did a great job of writing one.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: SAT score definitely helped, I think my essay was vital to my application.

SAT(M/CR/W): 760/560/720
SAT(M2): 800
SAT(PHY): 800
IB Prediction: 44/45, very rigorous curriculum

Super late, but since all I’ve seen are super high SAT scores I thought I might as well post this and give some people some hope.
Decision: Accepted
Hispanic female, OOS
SAT score: 1860 (CR: 580, CM: 630, CW: 650) I know these scores are low, that’s why I’m just as surprised as you are that I was accepted… But I’m extremely happy nonetheless. I don’t think this has any influence over my acceptance but I truly don’t believe my SAT score reflects my ability, as I get nervous and get anxiety while taking exams.
Applied EA for industrial engineering
UW GPA: 3.7
W GPA: 4.5
In the IB program (have taken at least 10 college level classes)
- My HLs are physics, english, and french
Other colleges I got accepted into (although GT is my top along with Stevens):
- Stevens Institute of Technology
- Fordham University
- University of Florida
- Quinnipiac (safety)
Deferred: - Northeastern University
- University of Miami
Lots of EC:
- National Honor Society
- French Honor Society
- Co-founded a cultural club at my school
- Secretary of Tech club
- Habitat for Humanity (3 yrs)
- 3 year varsity swimmer
- Tutor kids for ESL
- Took precalc class over the summer from junior to senior year in order to take IB Calc senior year
- plus other clubs in the school that are community based and not nationally known
Essay: I would say my essay was pretty strong as I talked about my childhood and my transition from moving from the Dominican Republic to the US when I was 9 years old.
- that being said I am not a first generation student
LOR: 2 teachers (one math, one english) and counselor
I definitely think being a female and hispanic helped me get accepted tremendously and I don’t wanna leave that out, as it is a pretty big factor for most colleges nowadays, especially in the engineering field.
Overall, I think this goes to show that GT doesn’t just look at numbers but they look at every applicant holistically. Whether you are looking into GT for the future, got deferred, or are waiting to hear for RD, I wish you the best of luck!
