I think the real question is this: is being gay inherent or is it a choice?

EDIT: I don't know because I'm not gay. Maybe somebody that's gay can shed some light on this question.

I think the real question is this: is being gay inherent or is it a choice?

EDIT: I don't know because I'm not gay. Maybe somebody that's gay can shed some light on this question.

Regardless of whether it's a choice or inherent or whatever, the fact remains that it happens, has been happening for thousands of years, is not worth "treating," and that they deserve the same protection under law.

the fact that there exist members of species born with homosexuality only furthers my point that there is a biological basis for it. the difference lies in whether or not we think we should find a way to treat it: i do; you don't. some of my friends actually want to be treated while others think that it is weird to think of it as a sickness, but most don't really care that i think that. it's not a huge topic of conversation, to tell you the truth.

Justice: I agree that something that is popular can be justified democratically and not necessarily be ethical. Do you realize you just made the case for slavery?

And in response to someone making a Jewish parallel, yes in my view Jews are sinning by not believing is Jesus. I am a zionist Christian, but I believe they are sinning.

Homosexuality is NOT NATURAL. Period. You can philosophize about it, but it's just not. And davidrune, what religions celebrate Homosexuality??
I know the sodomy case that the Supreme Court ruled on but those justices should be impeached. There was no constitutionality for that ruling. 14th Amendment is illegal!

On a side note, I'm glad this thread I made is encouraging discusion, and I honestly thank everyone for keeping this civil.
Shouuld we stay on this topic or try another one?

no one is forcing anyone to "Accept" gay people, they are just asking for equal rights and civil BENEFITS... two of my closest friends happen to be gay and it hurts me to see how much they suffer while being so uncertain about their futures. i think it is completely unfair to deprive them of something that has absolutely nothing to do with anyone else. as a deeply spiritual and religious Catholic, i LOVE everyone, and i want my friends to be able to enjoy their lives in ways that i am permitted to (because i am "normal"). i am sorry to say, but the Church and what G-d probably intended for it are two very different things at this point, but that's a discussion for another day (child molestation within the church... etc.) however, we must not assume that all religious people are completely closed-minded and intolerant :) that is all.

I think you should close this topic and move on to another--otherwise it will just keep going and going and going and going...

I agree. How about some suggestions?

Who would choose to be gay in a society as bigoted and ignorant as ours?

Lest we be reminded that the Bible was ALSO used to justify Slavery in some cases. The power of the Bible is an awesome (in the archaic sense of the word), sometimes terrifying thing.

on another note, columbia ed just got massacred

(((living vicariously through CC's Columbia ED acceptees until Harvard informs me of my fate.)))

I haven't seen so many rejected/ deferred b4 in my life.

BC--"And in response to someone making a Jewish parallel, yes in my view Jews are sinning by not believing is Jesus. I am a zionist Christian, but I believe they are sinning." Okay, so start making the government convert us. (Well, maybe my statement is a little illogical and extreme. But still...)
And also BC--"Homosexuality is NOT NATURAL. Period. You can philosophize about it, but it's just not." You are using what you feel instead of what you think. Philosophizing about something--thinking about it critically--is the only way to get to truth and right!

And I am about as far on the being-gay-is-inherent side as you can get. Why is it that sometimes people can tell from a young age who is gay by looking at them? (Okay, I realized I have been talking about men the whole time; all of these arguments apply to women, too, but I am male so that's what I know about) What are your stereotypes about "fags"--that they are artistic, sensitive, creative? How can I tell that some people are gay because of their mannerisms, interests, etc., and how am I right so often? Well, maybe those qualities do have a higher tendency of occuring in gays. (I think of us as a third gender.) Yes, I am applying stereotypes, but I do think that some stereotypes have basis in fact. And of course, there are straights and gays who act like the other type.

Homosexuals arent asking for two clutches, theyre asking for the right to use the same clutch that everyone else can at no cost to anyone.

Yoshe: "So start making the government convert us"
Sorry never said that
Any suggestions on new topics?

yes i agree, that's why it was extreme and illogical. sorry, maybe it was wrong to say it, but i thought, "why not just put it in there?" sorry if i offended you. anyways.

what about: should colleges use affirmative action in admissions?

There is actually a thread on that going i think in the college admissions section. I've posted some on it. Maybe something less to do with race/sexual orientation. How about just a general thread on political ideology. Like a point/counterpoint?

Don't worry about the Jewish thing. I know what you meant, but I didn't want you to misunderstand me and think I was saying we should have a religious genocide or anything. Anyways... Political ideology?

Should we do the general political ideology - point/counterpoint thread? Sound good?

ehh i don't really know. but i encourage people to talk about this!

i'm gay and trust me, it's not a choice. people don't choose to be hated by society, to be abandon by family, and stigmatized by their peers. It's also not the enviroment because I have 5 siblings. We all grew up in the same enviroment under the same circumstances, yet I'm the only one that's gay....sooooo it's genetic?

Thanks for the insight Statics
As a christian though, I refuse to accept your lifestyle as normal and refuse to support any measure to give marriage rights
I don't hate homosexuals, but I think that it is abnormal and I think it is living a life of sin
That is my opinion
I hope you don't take that as the gospel or anything

Should we do the politics discussion
I'm a proud Southern Conservative
