kandk...
i hope it isn't purely numerical....

is the fafsa required for oos waiver, anybody? I didn't think it was from what I saw on the website/ was told by an admissions person.

ACCEPTED OOS from VA

1400(old) 2050(new)

3.8 GPA

no waiver :(

is there any other way/time when they give out money of any kind (**merit-based though, NOT need-based) ???

ready, I think we're in the same exact position...

Spoke with admissions yesterday-future OOS waiver unlikely given trend of the last two years. Clemson raised the MINIMUM SAT requirement from 1300 to 1350, A average (4.0) and/or top 5-7% in class. Although CU offers more OOS waivers then they anticipate will accept, not enough offerees have declined over the past two years to dip back into the applicant pool.

If you go on the financial aid site, there are other merit based scholarships available that will be awarded in mid-March, mid April.

My D got her acceptance, but no waiver.

OOS Idaho, 30 ACT, 3.8 UW GPA, 39/375 rank in a school with 18 national merit semifinalists. I guess she should have transfered to a crap school.

I just got off the phone with admissions at Clemson. They said OOS tuition waiver requires a top 10% class rank. Doesn't matter how high your grades and SAT/ACT are, the top 10% is a strict cut-off.

Congrats to all who were accepted. S did not get in, but is fine with it. You are all very qualified, great Stats, pat yourselves on the back.

I believe that the 10% rule for class rank probably originates with the US News ranking system. One of the categories in their ranking is the percent of students who were in the top 10% of their class. So remember, if you are top 10% you are gold and if you are 10.4%, as my D, you are dirt.

We live in SC. I'm a Clemson alum. Have 2 nieces at CU. My son has been accepted into Clemson's engineering program. Go tigers!

DGGT -- I hope your D doesn't feel like dirt becaue she didn't get a waiver, or that you don't think she's dirt because she didn't get a waiver. If she's been admitted, obviously Clemson doesn't think it. And if she wasn't admitted, then that means she's a better fit at another school.

Intheknow - thanks for your message. We do not think that she is dirt and I guess that my message is a little bitter, my little tirade against some of the unfairness of the world. I do think that their is definitely some unfairness in viewing all high schools equally and that is apparently the case for the ranking cutoff.
