Official Harvard 2011 Transfer Thread

@eyethink- Veni, vidi, vici! And on a veeeeery vaguely related note, “It was always: ‘Socrates, what is truth? Socrates, what is the nature of the good? Socrates, what should I order? Socrates, what are you having?’ And not once did anyone ever say: ‘Socrates, hemlock is poison!’”
hahaha, not really sure why my mind went that-a-way…maybe any Ancient Greek stimuli reminds me of Steve Martin, lol.

Oooh. I just dated myself, huh? Please tell me you guys know who Steve Martin is… oh, tear

;)

So, question- why would we not want to “out” ourselves on here? I’ve pretty much already given any and all information necessary to figure out who I am amongst the applicants… so, why was that a bad idea…?

Am I totally clueless?? Lol

P.S. if any of you want to add me on fb, let me know…I guess, on your advice, I won’t post who I am, so PM me…? :)

@exprep Yes, I’m curious…why do you think “outing” yourself on this forum is necessarily bad for your chances?

@eyethink I admit that I had to google triumvirate (and Steve Martin).

@chasethecarrot You can expect a PM from me. :)

@CTC & CrmPie:

I don’t want to “out” myself on here because many of my posts have been filled with frustration and complaints, usually something along the lines of, “This admissions process sucks! The adcom should be open to taking more than 20 transfer students this year! I am so mad!!!”

These are really not attractive sentiments. They would reflect poorly on me. That’s why I don’t want to “out” myself. Make sense?

I’ve been trying to avoid reading the transfer threads of the privates I’m applying to but it’s far too hard. Any other people with pure math as their choice of concentration applying?

^^Oh, I see, lol. I’m pretty much a what-you-see-is-what-you-get girl, so even if I was complaining…which I’m sure I have at some point, plus I know I had a little outburst of frustration over people freaking out about NET ID’s on the Cornell thread (pages and pages that made me want to stick a fork in my eye), I still wouldn’t care if any adcoms saw it. I’m human, and yeah, parts of this process DO suck, and yes, I have little patience for people who freak out without even taking the time to simply READ multiple posts that would have answered their questions- even posts on the same page! I mean that with all due respect, of course… but as I said, I’m human…take it or leave it. Exhibiting frustration on an internet discussion forum doesn’t mean we’re prone to childish outbursts in a University setting, right??

I mean, obviously I am of the opinion that these things are not directly correlated, by any means. What I’m saying is, surely adcoms wouldn’t come to that conclusion, right? Well, at least, not unless they witnessed particularly unwell posts…lol

Oh, I forgot- okay, Steve Martin, boys and girls please tell me you know who Steve Martin is…and if not, go to your Netflix account and look up The Jerk. And old seasons of Saturday Night Live.

Do it. And you’ll get to see Chevy Chase in his early years, too, who I’m guessing your generation would best recognize from Community (I also happen to love that show). But then there are all the National Lampoon movies, and Fletch, and…well, you kids have a lot of work to do, get to it. ;)

@exprep Fair enough. I didn’t think of it that way because I don’t have anything in my post history that I wouldn’t be proud of.

@JetLogic I’ve seen your username in the UC board! That makes three of us. Are you coming from a California community college?

@chasethecarrot I realized I saw The Pink Panther starring Steve Martin for my birthday after scanning his IMDB. Fun times. :)

Yes indeed @Boston
I applied to a few high end privates out of hs and got some waitlists, so even though I have little expectation I am trying again

@chasethecarrot: hahaha I think we applied to all the same schools! good to see you on the less-crazed Harvard thread. Also, hells yeah on the Steve Martin reference.

As far as “outing” ourselves go, I doubt we should be worried - I totes outed myself on the NYU thread, and it didn’t affect anything :)

@CTC: I forgot to mention this, but thanks for the kind words in the PM. Thank you’s should always be first, my bad.

@CTC: Love Steve Martin but for my money I’ll take old school Robin Williams or Eddie Murphy.

@philgirl:
So you got into NYU? Congratulations! Really, that’s wonderful. I hope you’re very proud. Like, not to sound like someone’s mom/high school guidance counselor/someone else very maternal and kind of annoying, but that’s a fantastic accomplishment and I’m really excited for you.

@exprep: thank you so much for the congrats!!! i’m pretty stoked  just waiting to hear back from harvard and columbia before i make a final decision. where else did you apply? and what’s your major?

@BCP- Cool! I’ve never seen that one. Might have to check it out. :)

@eyethink- you’re welcome; thank you, as well. And Robin Williams- absolutely! I love his old stand-up. Some of his newer movies have been a little weird, though, lol.
Oh, man, that reminds me- you know how kids will watch the same thing over and over and over and over…well, that’s how I was as a kid at least. And mine do it too, lol. They’re currently stuck on Jumanji. If a TV is on, they’re watching Jumanji, so I’ve seen a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of Robin Williams lately…not really “classic” Robin Williams, but still…

@philgirl- yes, there are a few of us, actually, and you can find most of them here! Eyethink and BCP included. Congrats on NYU!!

I’m surprised no one commented on my Community reference, though! No one?? I LOVE that show! Probably in part because I reeeeally identify with some of the ridiculous things that go on at a community college, lol.

@CTC: How old are you? (I’m just curious.)

27…the magical rock star death age.

(Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain)

…and I AM a rock star

(lol okay, only in the sense that members of popular bands in Missouri can be rock stars…)

Just have to survive the next six months and I’m out of the woods. ;)

^I love Community but I haven’t seen this season because I’ve been inundated with school-related work this semester. The only I’ve been watching has to do with sports or the PBS Newshour.

I’m wondering what they’re going to do after this season, since we are coming to the close of the characters’ second year in community college…doesn’t that mean the show’s basically over? Lol are they gonna transfer and change the name of the show to “Uni” or something?

Community = comm+UNI+ty -> Unicommty shall be its new name.
