Official Harvard 2011 Transfer Thread

did anyone else send in supplement material (i.e. research, art, music, etc.)?

^ Not me.

Mmmh, I’m partial to Felipe’s Taqueria in the Garage. Nothing here in SoCal compares. Have either of you tried the J.P. Licks in Harvard Square? Their strawberry banana smoothie is the best…

^^^ Are you serious? Go to El Taurino in LA. It’s in K-Town across from the Food For Less. You can’t miss it. Also, there’s a place in Fullerton with awesome music (I know my bros spin there) called the Continental Room. They have Taco Tuesday’s. Five pastor tacos for $5. Tastes sooo good.

Correction: Nothing here in Riverside compares. But then again, everything tastes better with a heaping helping of Harvard.

I’ll have to check out those places whenever I’m in the area again. I used to live in K-town, and I never heard of El Taurino.

Has anyone else called Harvard’s undergraduate office? The automated voice that answers is so intimidating. I wanted to say in my meekest voice ever God … is that you? If God sounded like a sophisticated slightly sassed African American man. LOL

“Morgan Freeman … is that you?”

In all honesty, I’ve called dozens of times and I’ve never noticed. But the wait time at Stanford and Columbia can be terrible.

I found the Transfer Admissions woman to be very awkward and dry when speaking with her over the phone. Anyone else know who I am talking about?

Are we…supposed to call admissions? Or only if we have questions?

Sent from my DROID PRO using CC App

^^ I’ve talked to about three different people, and one of them could fit that description.

^ They’re there to answer questions.

Current School: State University, tier 1
Major: Spanish
Entering as: Sophomore (current Freshman with junior standing but ap credits negligible there)
High School GPA: 4.65 (3.9ish unweighted) 3rd out of 450ish
College GPA: 4.00
SAT/ACT Scores: 30 Act
SAT II Scores: Didn’t sent them in
Significant ECs: Working with immigration organizations, homeless shelter, Latino groups, etc
Hooks: This might cause some controversy…but I’m an undocumented immigrant, Latino, low income, URM…
US/Intl: Technically international, but considered domestic.

So what do you think my chances are? I applied to Harvard for everything it stands for: an intellectual environment that seeks to challenge its students. At the same time, I want to contribute back to the Harvard community and form advocacy groups that fight for the rights of undocumented immigrants. Chances are extremely low, but it’s worth a shot!

What specialization did you guys apply to? I chose History and Literature.

@cordova: You have a great resume, as I’m sure you’re aware. From my personal experiences at harvard, I actually don’t think that the “undocumented immigrant” will really hurt you. In fact, I think Harvard will be very interesting in that fact. I think you have a great application. Oh course, I have no idea what your “chances” are (I cannot be sure of any one’s when it comes to Harvard). But, good luck!

@eyethink: I applied for a concentration in engineering sciences (specifically the environmental sciences and engineering track)

@cordova1992 I’d say you have a compelling case, but sadly I’m not qualified to actually chance you. Best of luck! :)

I applied to Social Studies.

Did everyone get the confirmation email? I mailed a paper app almost 2 weeks ago, and I’ve received nothing.

I bet no one applied the same dept as me…I applied to Computer science…

I love how no one is posting their stats LOL. I’m not doing it because I’m hiding something. I just feel like posting stats is like boasting about how much money you’re making. Not that I think any less of cordova, he/she certainly set a high bar and I’m sure everyone has similar stats and a compelling tale.

So why East Asian Studies ntrading?

^Gotcha. Are you focusing on any specific country?

@eyethink

I also noticed that no one was posting their stats haha. I think this is because (looking from previous threads) it can be really discouraging when people see that you don’t have perfect records and immediately discount you and say you have no chance in hell. I’m not posting mine because I’ve seen people get shredded apart on these posts because they didn’t have a 4.0 or a 2400, and I really don’t need some random stranger to tell me what I can or cannot do :)

btw I applied as an astrophysics major

I don’t care what anyone on CC thinks about me lol. I didn’t post my stats because, “you don’t air your laundry in public.” Besides everyone has awesome stats so what’s the point?lol.

@eyethink I agree I personally feel people tend to post stats to show off, and quite a number are fake. A number of people put up stats that are false just to solicit praise from readers and feel good about themselves. Its sad.

So I’m guessing everyone got their confirmations? :(
