Waitlisted.

Just got the email! Waitlisted.

Worse things have certainly happened, and I’m actually happy with the result. I thought I was a weak applicant, and a waitlist may bode well for my other schools.

Good luck to everyone else!

rejected. 4.0 from Dartmouth (engineering) 2330 SAT, lots of extra-curriculars–) :(

Reeeeejected. Congrats to all who were admitted(/waitlisted)!

agel and merrimack93,

What were your stats?

fluvant,

Just a brief overview:

College: Studying American history and Journalism at top 20 private university. 3.7 GPA. 2300 SAT. 34 ACT.

High school GPA: 5.0/6.0 (I went to a boarding school and we used a different system).

EC’s: Published in Concord Review. President of debate society in high school. Editor on school paper in high school. Won international MUN conference for college team. Staff writer on school paper.

4.0 from private university top 25. Lots of ECs and in science. Received an interview.

^ I also got an interview. Does it look like they were actually a good indicator of our chances?

Accepted. Oh my god.

Congrats, 12transfer! Stats?

no email yet. anyone else waiting?

transfer12: sorry for creeping on you man, but you said Harvard was your top choice and you spent so much time on it! Congrats, I’m so happy for you!!!

marap18, you’re not the only one - still haven’t received an email. guess i’ll have to wait until tomorrow…

tomorrow is going to be MASSIVE; UPenn, Duke, Columbia and possibly Yale and Harvard all in one day.

Yeah, Im just waiting on UPenn and Harvard. I read through some threads and a lot of people have received their decisions late at night, so lets see what happens! oh and Congrats transfer12!

Harvard said in their denial letter that only 12 people were accepted. Why even have transfers?

I’m not going to go into too much detail with my stats, but I will say as much:
- I have an excellent academic record - consistent high school grades, 7.0 GPA out of a possible 7.0 from first year uni
- Various academic awards and a few scholarships
- Quite a few ECs over many years - my primary one is based on social justice/environmental work, but also things you’d expect like debating, model UN, journalism, student leadership
- I tried really hard in my essay to convey a specific academic interest and why my current institution is not an ideal place to pursue it.

Honestly, I think the strongest thing about my application was that I strived to convey as much of my individuality as possible. I have strong credentials, of course; so does everyone. But I really tried to communicate my passion for my prospective major and my ECs.

One thing which may be heartening to future applicants: I only had a 2110 on the SAT. I had 2 months in between deciding to apply and the last possible SAT date before the deadline. I didn’t study for CR or Writing at all, because I didn’t think I’d need to and I needed all the time I could get to study for Math - and indeed I got an 800 in CR without any prior prep. I did surprisingly badly in Writing though, even though I thought I’d written a good essay - I chalk it up to an unfamiliarity with what the College Board is looking for. I got a 650 for Maths, and I was expecting that - I’m absolutely dreadful with numbers. Potentially the adcom were lenient with me because I’m an international, but in any case, future applicants should know that a lower range SAT won’t necessarily exclude you - it’s significant, of course, but only to an extent. I can only imagine that if I’d ever asked anyone to ‘chance me’ on CC I probably would’ve been torn apart, and indeed I had thought getting in anywhere was a lost cause after I got my scores, although I followed through anyway because the only reason I was applying in the first place, chances be damned, was so I could have no regrets. I’m sure you’ve all heard this before, but you should really try not to be just a set of perfect test scores and simply an interesting person.

@12transfer.
Congratulations. I must say that your application is much more impressive than my own, particularly in terms of ec’s. Just wondering where you’re from, seeing as you mentioned that you were an international applicant (I’m actually from Australia).
I was fortunate enough to attend one of the best and most prestigious secondary schools in my state (if not the country to be fair), however, while my marks were still above average, I felt that I had not fully utilised the opportunities which where made available to me.
I took a gap year between high school and university and I matured greatly in that time and have significantly improved and grown in every facet of live.
Sorry to burden you with my (condensed) life story, but I had dreamt of receiving the opportunity you have been presented with. I wish you every success while at Harvard and in your future pursuits and life.
This may seem a little forward, but I hope we could keep contact as I would be very interested in gaining your insight into Harvard and more generally your progression during and after your time there.
Once again, congratulations on this remarkable achievement and I hope that your time at Harvard is one that you embrace and cherish for the rest of your life.

Congrats 12transfer! Crossing my fingers that I’ll get to join you there next fall, but either way good luck living the dream!

this is really weird, I haven’t received an email yet. I double checked the email I put on my application too… anyone know what’s up?
