***Official Harvard Class of 2012 Waitlist Thread***

I hope they just call us. That would be a much more humane way of doing it.

Do you all know if they inform you if you've been taken out of contention?

Also, are you allowed to accept online? I'm gonna be overseas the entire month of june, so (just in case, lol) if I somehow get off the WL, I want to know that I can at least accept them on their offer.

I'm sure if no online acceptance is available you can just have one of your parents send back the form. Or if they e-mail you with the news, call the office and explain your situation.

Haha, yep i held onto it.. if I do end up getting in, I think it proves that fortune cookies really do speak the truth ;)

I wish everyone the best!! This is really exciting!

If you sent a supplemental letter, did you send it to your regional director, or to Mr. Fitzsimmons (the director) directly? I sent one three weeks ago to my regionals director, and no response whatsoever. No returned emails or phone calls. what's up with that?

I'm pretty sure it'll all get sorted out. I mean, I'd assume if they receive a letter telling them that you will go if accepted, they'll place it for the waitlist committee. I think everything was supposed to be in by May 1 (I, and my GC heard this directly from someone in admissions).

However, my GC also told me that H really doesn't care about sending in extra recs, extra letters, or whatever. I mean, unless you have received some major award (i.e. ISEF, USAMO, etc), then sending "interest" letters is nearly inconsequential. They pick in order to fill the class they envisioned it to be. For example, if they don't have anyone going from Wyoming, and there's someone on the WL form that state, then odds are that that person will get the call so that H can say that all 50 states are represented.

this is so incredibly nerve wracking
is everyone here content with where you're giong if you don't get into harvard?

i mean this school was my dream as im sure it was for many of you
but im still glad to go to duke

Really, CNI? So I can't send an extra rec now?

And WiiSeller, I'm going to Duke too! I'm completely content, but Harvard would be cool.

funny, my son's friend is also going to Duke but waiting to hear back from Harvard. Best of luck

wow lotsa dukies waiting on harvard then it seems haha
blue devils yay

oh and are you guys waiting on other waitlists too

im waiting brown, columbia
but id take duke over those at this point

I'm on Columbia and Penn WL, but I'm unlikely to go even if accepted there. H is the big one. :)

The Harvard Crimson :: News :: College Sees No Change in Admissions Yield

150-200 is a siginificant number. Perhaps they may have to send 300-400 offers to fill these 150-200 spots. How does this process work?

My fortune cookie said: A smooth long journey! Great Expectations.
Lucky Numbers: 14, 18, 23, 32, 34, 39
The word on the back is: Today (jin-tian)

no joke. This is so disgustingly appropriate.

Ijmom: Usually, they will send a conservative number of WL admits. After hearing back from the "first round of WL admits," they will decide to send more or stop. It's really just inching toward that goal of a class of 1,675. Based on the numbers, it seems like approximately 1,530 said yes (78.5% of 1,948 admits) -- so they would send a minimum of 150-200 in the next couple of days, which is in line with The Crimson article.

Good luck everyone!

good luck to all waitlisted students. The next few weeks could change our lives. Kinda like Mar 31, 2008 Part II.

I'm in at Columbia and thrilled to be there. I'm still holding out for Harvard but as time has passed since March 31st, I don't know that I would change from Columbia to Harvard at this point. Still....I would like to have that decision. Good Luck!

how will they inform us of our decision?

To calm people down a bit:

The fact is, most of us waitlisted will be rejected. The acceptance rate from the waitlist now seems to range from 10% to 20%; this is still a relatively low percentage. At least 4/5 of us will not be accepted, probably more.
