How are there only 4 on CC? IDK , to me it just seems like a ridiculously low number of CC'ers got off the WL.

And also, didn't the admissions office say that they would start calling on Thursday or Friday?

Not only that but today's only Wednesday. They started assessing applications last Friday. Could they have gone through 1000+ applications in 3days, and made these decisions in that short a timeframe?
Well maybe they worked on the weekend I guess and have an efficient system.

What happened to taking at least 150 off the wait list?

If these 144 have been admitted because they would've been admitted in past years, doesn't that mean the waitlist IS ranked?

i'm highly skeptical about this... why would harvard only admit 144 if it said it would admit 200+??? wouldn't that just defeat the whole purpose saying it would admit 200?

Only 4 people accepted from College Confidential. CC kids are the brightest, even among those on the Harvard waitlist. I call this story pure speculation ... didn't someone else write that Harvard hasn't even evaluated its candidates from Massachusetts yet?

Luckily, I got into Wharton ... but had I not, I would be wicked bummed if this were true.

"[Fitzsimmons] added that the admissions office will be able to make a lot of people happy in the month of June.

May 14 today.

My D's GC was contacted only yesterday. I'm sure she's not the only one. Why would they do that if they've already made the decisions and called everyone.

I'm inclined to believe that Harvard has maybe called a few people, but that it will begin sending out large numbers of calls tomorrow and Friday. I don't think 144 people have been called yet, especially as CC is filled with a lot of smart kids. It doesn't really make sense to have filled up the waitlist so quickly, especially after the admissions office said they would "start" tomorrow.

Perhaps, they have already selected the 144 students (which I doubt) and will begin to notify these students in the coming days. There is no way that out of 144 accepted students, 4 were from CC ... that is way too small a number. Penn only took about 90 kids and there were like 10 or so CC members who were notified ... and tons of CCers have been accepted into Columbia from the waitlist.

kind of random, but how do you find out who your regional admissions person contact is? Does anyone know who it is for the Southeast (i.e. Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina; not that they're necessarily grouped together)

Definitely not true -- yes, someone on this forum received a call yesterday in which an admissions officer said that TODAY the committee would begin evaluating applications from the MA region.

In addition to this, there is no way anyone could "magically hear" the figure 144. This person has not identified him/herself, has not said where he/she got this information from... but the bottom line is this: every ounce of OFFICIAL information we have heard thus far (from The Crimson and from phone-calls directly from Harvard) specifically says that there will be "more than 200" people taken off the waiting list and offered admission. We also KNOW that the majority of these calls, emails, etc. will be made "at the earliest by the end of this week." What we have seen so far is but 5-10 kids who seem to be "special cases."

Do not believe a word this person says... and keep your hopes alive!

i like how everyone FREAKED OUT!!
once the source is provided, it's done.

if it's not provided, dream on havard waitees

Hey, I haven't posted before but I'm on the waitlist too. I REALLY don't think they called 144 people. I spoke to my regional admissions officer today was told that the committee is still meeting and will start to make calls thurs and fri. I definitely believe the people who said that they have been called already, but I think they are the exception to the rule. It's the Harvard Admissions Office, everyone knows that what they say and what they do are often slightly different, but I don't think that my admissions officer (and the others that people have spoken to over the past week) would blatantly lie to us. I think that the vast majority of people have yet to be notified.

xjayz -- would you mind telling us what your source is?

xjayz: seems you have a bit of a sadistic trend. Your real name must be Miss Information

(Reminds me of the UCLA forum where someone said decisions were coming out on a particular Monday...generated about 25 pages through that night..)

I love how we collectively spazzed.

But really, what's the source? I'd like to hear it.

Someone I know from Southwest Ohio was called just yesterday.

Yeah, I have the same question as well, as someone just asked, how do you find out who your regional rep. is? I can't find anything, and thought I might like check in just for good measure, also is there pt in doing that now? I sent a letter but i never checked to see if they got it like 2 weeks ago, so i guess that is 2 questions, also that seemingly false statement about the 144 made my heart jump, so thanks for clearing that up everyone

You should start by asking your counselor. That's what I did, and she directed me to someone else who had the information.
