***Official Harvard Class of 2012 Waitlist Thread***

We are from NJ and we have heard nothing so far. No one else from our h.s. has been admitted (or even wait-listed) to Harvard. But then again, ours is not a hyper-competitive school, either.

Any Long Islanders or New Yorkers lurking out there, please "de-lurk" (lol) and i.d. your location or any info you can share!
For that matter, all "de-lurkers" welcome no matter where you are from!!!!

hey everyone- i received a call to my cell phone from my regional admissions officer (male) friday afternoon around 3:00 pacific time letting me know that i've been taken off the waitlist. i am a girl from southern california. so far, i am pretty sure that i will take the offer, but am still undecided nonetheless. i wish all the best to those of you that are still waiting, and truly believe that wherever we all end up, college will still be the best time of our lives.

--also, for some specifics, i sent in a letter in april expressing why i am so interested in harvard, and had my ap gov teacher send in a recommendation to provide a new viewpoint from one of my senior year teachers. my sister, who is a junior at harvard, also wrote a letter on my behalf.

hey, I'm from NJ, and I know a good number of highly qualified people on the waitlist. I don't think anyone has heard yet

Good luck to all! FYI, my daughter received a call today from the Admissions Office to let her know that she has been accepted. We live in South Florida. The officer called her on her cell this morning and told her to expect to receive a package this Tuesday. Our daughter was slated to go to MIT but will accept Harvard!

"I don't know...it seems weird that they would have so much room for MA kids (I mean, it's Harvard's home state!)"

I can't comment on New Jersey, but Harvard takes a lot of kids from Massachusetts. Surprising, but true.

just for the record...i know of two kids from nj who were taken off friday evening

slots777,

Do you know which schools were they going to before this? Thanks.

...drat.

this is the sound of me giving up hope: (big sigh)

thanks for the info, slots.

what about the mid-midwest-- minnesota, wisconsin, iowa, michigan, illinois-- has anyone heard news out of the Great Lake states at all?

Correct me if I am wrong. Harvard is taking off those who are going to Yale, Princeton, Stanford and MIT.

^^anyone from Ohio?
some one on here mentioned one person getting off from Ohio
but in general, it seems the midwest has been pretty quiet

Not in my case, University of Chicago.

Sorry, including Chicago.

@ewho,

I don't think it matters. Several people were taken off who were going to schools other than the ones you mentioned.

Also, if that were the case, acceptance calls are long overdue for many of us :P

[edit] on a side note, does anyone know how many regional reps FL has?

ewho, there also seem to be a lot of Dukies on the Harvard WL. A few Browns as well.
I'm going to Emory. My thought process was, if I don't get into Harvard/Yale, I'm not going to bother shelling out tuition for any other school for undergrad, so I'm just going to someplace where I can get it for free

I hope that admitting two people from NJ does not mean they will not admit any more from the region.

Central Jersey and still waiting.

IvyMom: add that i'm from NYC. again, i don't know anyone who has heard, but it would suck if they decided not to take anyone from this area, though :(

Remember, this is only the first week they've start to admit people from the WL. My guess is that they've admitted around a 100 kids so far. I know it's hard to watch many people here get admitted while you're still in the dark, but there's still quite a few days until the end of May, where "most of the decisions will be made."

I'm very anxious about this whole situation, as I'm sure all of you are. But it's Harvard, so I don't count on an acceptance, but I don't count it out either.

i hope harvard will release another statement soon about where they are in the process. maybe we'll see something by the beginning of this week. i really hope NOT to receive anything in the mail this week, because it would likely be a rejection letter if they have finished the first wave.

ewho - i know one was going to princeton and the other i believe was going to a top-ranked LAC but im not sure which one
