Email Dec 14th 5PM

Seems like an eternity from now even though it's barely over a week!!! So, before the decisions are in, what do you all think? Are you in? Out? Defferred? I think I have good chances... for several reasons. I'm going to maintain a positive outlook about this all. When the decision comes, I don't want it to make or break my life. Regardless of the decision, I'm ready. So what do you all think?

I have pretty good scores, excellent extracurriculars and national-level awards. Then again I'm Asian in an ultra-competitive boarding school so what the hey. I'm going to say that I have a high chance of getting accepted, just to keep me happy and relaxed until the 14th:)

I'm prepared for the worst, I'll likely be deferred as so few people are denied. But deferral is almost denial as only 3% of those deferred last year were later accepted RD.

Then again...who knows...

Let's just hope Harvard is in serious need for some Republicans.

Decided to add the "number of other applicants from your school."
Here's the NEW AND IMPROVED PERSONALIZED CRIMSON FORMAT :

Oh yeah, post your height... I'm doing a stats study on this now.

hahaha :D

it's actually going to be really interesting

I like this format, but the post is already too crowded. Someone should start the thread few hours before the results come out.

Runningncircles, Why do you have two 'Hooks' in the format?

I think it would be interesting to also include prospective concentration.

Thank you Green Tea... I didn't notice that! Okay, I'll start the acceptance letter forum on the 14.

Hey, I'm not really big on codes or anything... so when I get my decision, am I supposed to copy and paste the coded format (and the add my stats)? I just want to make sure b/c I definitely would like to contribute my stats to your thread (runningncircles1) as soons as I get the decision. Please let me know. Good luck to all my Harvard EAers!!!

-Jon :)

Yeah, I'll put the format on the page for you, and you will copy and paste it. Also, I will put one space before phrases in each bracket. (IE: [ b] is **)

gotcha. Thanks circles. Good luck to you!!!

-Jon

Thanks, you too!

So.... what do you all think so far? Think you have a good shot at getting in? If you think you're getting in... list the top 3 reasons why. If you don't think you're getting in, list the top 3 reasons why not. This should be interesting when we actually get the decisions on Dec. 14th. Good luck to everyone!!

-Jon

top 3 reasons for getting in: umm...i have fairly competitive test scores (mostly 700s Sats one 800 with val position) i have a unique background (im a mexican muslim who's half white half pakistani and my dad's a farmer) and i won an essay contest judged by a famous harvard grad

top 3 reasons for getting shafted: im a nonlegacy nonathlete non1500+ sat white/asian; my math scores SUCK; ec's are pretty commonplace, no national level stuff (unless you include 6th grade nat'l spelling bee lol and i didnt win)

oh to answer yr question dolittle, im almost 99% sure ill get deferred/rejected cuz my 3 reasons to get rejected obviously outweigh my 3 reasons to get accepted (and im sure there's more reasons to get rejected that im not covering lol :))

Hmm...question, for no one in particular (but preferably someone who knows the answer..lol)
I requested on my application that they NOT send me an email about the decision. Does that mean I have to wait several extra days to find out or will I get a letter around the 15th? That is, do they send letters out earlier than they send the emails so that you get the snail mail around the same time?

They send emails the day before they mail the snail mail. So snail mail is received considerably later. You can always change the email decision option online.
