*Official Harvard EA Admit Page*

Five reasons to accept me: I am a poor latino. I am a national politics debate champion. I founded a program to teach English and the Naturalization process. I work 25 hrs/wk. I am a kick *** soccer player.

Five reasons to reject me: My GPA is low compared so everyone else. My rank effing sucks. I suck at Math. I need full financial aid. My SAT score isn't so hot either.

drats.
Now I'm in quite a dilemma.
I don't want to get an email decision but I don't want to wait so long!
sighh....

You could also just get the email and open it whenever you want.

downside to gmail is that it gives you the first line of the email when you view it in the inbox, which means if I dont see "Congratulations" in the line, it means something bad.

blah...looks like I'm getting the email (that is...once I uhh...find that silly PIN)

Oh, you can turn that preview option off. I also have gmail. All you do is go to settings and select the "no snippets" option in the middle of the page.

Oh. Sweet!
Thank you mucho!

and now to deal with this denial of my request for my PIN? ***? Hmm...apparently when they say "full name", they don't intend for you to include your middle name. Right. That's clarity for you.

I was worried about the gmail preview too. But then i found out there was a way to turn it off.

Reasons to be accepted: Poor URM, 5's on AP exams, 800 SAT Spanish, 740 French, 720 USH. Seasoned actor - Voted "Most Likely To Win An Oscar" (senior superlative). Great Rec. Letters (English teacher referred to me as a "renaissance man")!! Varsity Athlete. President of several honor societies and clubs. Fluent in Spanish, Italian, French, and English (+ I can read Portuguese). Awarded the Foreign Language Dept. award when I was a sophomore (the award has only been traditionally offered to graduating seniors - so I was the first and only in my high school's history). Also, I had an INCREDIBLE interview!! It was supposed to last 45 minutes and ended up lasting 1h 25 mins. Rank: Top 5%, GPA: 96.4 (unweighted). Several Independent Study courses (AP Psych - got a 5 w/o a class).

Reasons to be rejected: SAT I Scores not so impressive (1990 - CR: 680 - top 93 or 94%ile though; M: 600 (sucks), WR: 710 (good) but overall not very impressive SAT score). They may not take kindly to my discussion about being gay in my additional essay. Then again, it may work to my advantage. Who knows?

I have faith that I'll get in. If not, then Harvard is just not where I was meant to shine. I'm still applying to other schools, so I'm bound to get in some place!! Good luck to everyone!!!

-Jon :)

Reasons to be accepted: umm...unique essay (topic-wise, I think it's memorable), alternate to RSI (that could help maybe? I put it down because it's distinguishing at the very least though certainly not as impressive as actually going), some awesome recs, good interview (I think; it definitely lasted longer than it was supposed to, which is a good sign right?)

Reasons to be rejected: Indian (ahhh! stupid Asian background!), not many leadership positions, ECs are nothing spectacular/ don't excel in anything, awards are for the most part local/unimportant
- basically i don't stand out.

...I am so nervous!

Hey LadyinRed... that's aweful! You shouldn't be mad at your background. This is what sucks about college applications. People abhor their roots b/c they put them at a disadvantage. I personally, as a little kid always used to be upset at my mother for not having waited to have me in the US. I cursed having been born in Colombia. I've grown to love being a minority though and it happens to work to my advantage. That isn't why I love it though. I love it b/c I've been enriched by having two cultures! And in your case, LadyinRed, that isn't why you should hate yours. Be proud! You may have impressed the Harvard adcoms. Good luck to you!!

-Jon :)

I don't hate my background. haha...in fact, I pretty much flaunt it in my everyday life. I have no problem going out in clothes brought back from India nor do I have any problem telling people about where my family comes from. What I do hate about being a minority are the assumptions people make, and a disadvantage in college admissions falls under that category. I guess I don't hate my background, I just hate the stereotypes associated with it.

LadyinRed,

The only reason that you'd be at an a disadvantage is if youre the "stereotypical" asian who doesnt play sports and does only math and classical music.

If you actually have genuine passions that are your own, then you'd be at an advantage because colleges receive few asian applicants like that.

Nobody's background is a disadvantage, as long as you show colleges that youre your own person with genuine PASSION and interests, not those of your parents.

AP are you a US citizen?

I assume that the post above is BS. I have a hard-time believeing that his step-father is an adcom... And, how can you have a fee-waiver with a 65 thou income? How many members are in your family?

DHA_300 yes, I am an American citizen. In fact, I've got dual citizenship (U.S. and Colombia). Please, just don't turn this into some partisan political debate.... spare us the boredom! Otherwise, good luck to you!

-Jon :)

hes applying early to princeton...

Why do we have this parade every year? In the end, no one gets accepted to Harvard. No one gets rejected. In fact, are we even certain that this so-called Harvard University even exists?

Yes, I can see that he's applying to Princeton Ed/ea or whatever by using the search function, but WHY is he posting his results here?

I heard columbia EAers had their decision in the email subject line! (this was from a columbia EAer who got deferred)

I'm gonna die.
