[] Essays: I thought it had personality, but was sort of weak on playing my strong traits. I wrote about my dad whom I visit once in a while. My additional essay was a joke, just a list of the books I’ve read over the past year or so. I was too lazy to write another full essay.
[] Teacher Recs: One great, one excellent (although it was so shining it could’ve been mistaken for BS).
[] Counselor Rec: I haven’t read it. I’m assuming it was good.
[] Hook (if any): Ha! Maybe I’m well-rounded? Oh, and I’m a fine gentleman, full of humility and all that great charm. But alas, that’s not a hook. . .

I don't effing get how static was deferred. When I was reading the decisions, I covered up the right side of the screen and scrolled down until I found his name (and would have grinned if I saw "admitted" next to it).

He has gone through so many personal tribulations and has still managed to be the "best of the best." I just can't believe it. It really shows how much emphasis the school places upon trivial SAT scores.

erm... they must have had their reasons. and i dont think scores matter as much as you say they do...
i got DEFERRED
with a 1600/800/800/800/800/800/4.0uw4.9w
sat 2s were math2c, writing, bio, chem, physics
and 5s on 8 APs
and i thought i had a pretty good hook. i went to a summer program, did number theory, abstract algebra, projective geometry, linear algebra, etc. in school i have taken multivariable calculus. plus i program a LOT, and have worked on $50k websites through my internship...

but im happy thats its finally over.... no more stress until april! and congrats to everyone who DID make it im sure they deserved it ^^

i'm surprised bubchub got deferred. has anyone else seen his stats?

so is this a stats thread or what?

Decision: Deferred

1500 SAT 800 M 700 V
SAT IIs 800 Math II C, 800 Chemistry, 770 Writing
AP exams: Chemistry 5, Physics 5, US History 5, comp sci 5, english 3 AP 5
rank: 10/547 in a top 30 public school in the US

did research over the summer and entered it into Intel science talent competition<--- was supposed to be hook, but if i get semifinalist or something in that and send that in then i dunno maybe i'll have a chance of being accepted after this deferral.

if not i'm cool LOL i'll go to University of texas where i'm already admitted, and this way i'll be able to stay at home too.

my only reply: Dear God!!!! how did those ppl not get in with perfect scores and GPAs in every way? woww, they must have only been booksmart and no ECs or something?

still...WOW WOW, i didn't apply to this school, so it doesn't affect me, but still...geeeeeez! hehe okay i'm done.

for those that did get in, you guys truly deserve to be there. those 4 yrs of diligent hardwork paid off, your passion shown through, and you differentiate yourself to be the best of the best.

anyway, you guys already know about my news...it's okay. i deserve it.....

i hope you guys all go out tonight, hug your parents real hard for their support, hang out with friends, and just shout to the world...

Stats:
SAT: 1580

Rank: no official rank. top few of 400

Subjective:
Essays: Very quirky. Very good ESSAY, but I'm not sure it said much about me as a perosn.
Teacher Recs: One decent/good, one very good, one excellent (supplementary)
Counselor Rec: excellent
Hook (if any): none.

Location/Person:
State or Country: Maryland
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Korean-American (moved to US in 8th grade)
Gender: Male
major strength/weakness: strengths- violin and creative writing.. except they didnt show in my application. my supplementary materials were sent out too late. weaknesses- lack of scientific research (pre-med major), curriculum on the easier side (although as challenging as possible at my school), being a typical asian with good stats, premed, music.. -.- (which is bad.)
EC's: laundry list. 9-10 musical ensembles per year, ranging from school quartet to national level orchestras. a host of leadership positions, from class pres to concertmaster positions. all your honor societies and "nerd" clubs.. etc.
Other Factors: i sent in two supplementary writing samples, a short story and a poem (let me know if you'd like to take a look at them).. but i was too late.. they'll be considered again under reg. decision

how did balthasar, m62 not get in?
honestly, i thought i had a decent shot too.. what have i done wrong?

ECs (the highlights):
3 yrs student council (including class and school treasurer)
4 yrs marching band (including 2 yrs as section leader, 1 as drum major)
Research Experience for Undergraduates at Princeton over the summer (includes recommendation from professor)
Passed AMC 3 times, twice with distinction
Interned at congressman's office

Why I think i was deferred:
my essay sucked (and overall poor presentation of personality)
i retardedly wrote that i wanted to do engineering
B in french last year (harvard hates imperfection)
Indian from NJ

harvardhopeful - class prez? thats no small achievement. with all that stuff im now convinced you need a perfect GPA for harvard. **** me for slacking in french.

harvard was really never right for me. my rents made me apply even though im teetering between engineering and business. harvard engineering? what a joke.

Stats-
You didnt deserve to get deferred anymore than you would have if you were accepted. Consider this: Einstein originally wanted to be an electrical engineer. However, he didnt get into the school for it in Zurich, so he settled for another school to become a physics teacher. Had he gotten in to his Harvard, you wouldnt know his name today.
