The interview is something to be nervous about for sure but not be terrified of. I had mine about two months ago and like you, not many people apply in my area. (In fact my interviewer said “i clearly wasn’t going to be a great scientist. I moved to this county!”) That being said, dress professionally but plainly. The best advice I got was to dress in way so that the interviewer doesn’t remember what you wore. The interview itself is fairly standard. Mine was very much a conversation after going through a basic discussion on test scores and my school in general. While I cannot speak for all interviewers, mine did not ask any trick questions (although I have had them on other interviews so be warned!). If you are asked one, answer honestly and with a little (appropriate!) humor. It might not get you in, but having an interviewer who smiles certainly feels a lot better. Just come prepared with things you want to talk about and some good questions. There’s always time for those. You’re going to be nervous and thats okay.Try to sound as confident as you. At the same time, while you should try to avoid sweating gallons, comming across as slightly nervous shows humility and is probably seen in 90% of applicants.

@Chris thanks for the advice! This will be my second interview. My first one wasn’t the best so hopefully this one is better. Did you get in SCEA?

I’ve had interviews that were good and not as great too so dont worry. It really just depends on the person you get. I did regular decision and just applied early. I would obviously go to Harvard if i got in, but didn’t feel confident enough to give up my chance to do EA elsewhere.

Hi everyone! I submitted my RD application to Harvard a couple of days ago.

Since I’m submitting my application so late will I still have the opportunity to interview?

My D couldn’t find her teachers because of the break, it’s possible to send recommendation letter/transcript after deadline?

@required3

As per my guidance counselor and a lady on the phone from Harvard, letters of recommendation can come after the deadline. However, your D’s initial components (Common App stuff) has to be submitted by the Jan 1st deadline.

thanks you!

@StanfordMan You’ll still have the opportunity to interview. I applied SCEA (handed app in the day of deadline) and had my interview 2 weeks before the decision date. However, don’t be discouraged if you don’t get one. I’m sure that you would have heard this a gazillion times already, but being offered for an interview has no correlation with your chance of getting accepted. My friend two years ago got in without one. :P

how many people here are NOT doing the additional essay?

did anyone just do the " A list of books you have read during the past twelve months"? i wonder if the admissions people will think this is lazy

At least it’s something.

And holy cow I didn’t even know it was a 3% acceptance rate RD.
What was it SCEA?

Acceptance is less likely than me jumping off the third story of my school and not injuring myself. LOL

I think the SCEA acceptance rate was somewhere around 21%. They accepted 992 students if I’m correct.

@romeonachos

whartondreamer is right…I think it was around 22 percent or ± that number… This year they had less applicants to SCEA but more acceptances which will affect the RD pool by not just the difference in more acceptances but more than that (to account for yield difference)…

@starmound
i find it reaffirming of the fact of how hard it is to get into Harvard. Looking back, applying Harvard EA was probably a better idea than Stanford EA but what is done is done. I am submitting mine tonight. Anyone else sending in the app close to the deadline?

I did mine on Sunday.

And oh well. It will be an honor to at least get an interview.

Have my interview tomorrow. Not too nervous since my Princeton interview went really well.

@ Matrixsurgeon, I just submitted my writing supplement. Now the waiting begins.

For me it was just because I didnt have time. I needed tg break and winter break to tackle to supps. :O

@starmound
I was rejected but I wasn’t expecting anything better. I was suprised with the 7000 applicants that applied for a mere 750 slots… I was expecting around 6500 max. But harvard on the other hand had a DECREASE in applicants and a increase in acceptances and defers…
but hey, with a rejection, I can put stanford in my hindsight and not worry about it.
