shouldn't you kids be celebrating or crying? seriously, you don't have anything better to do than post on a message board?

harvard, here come your College Admissions Message Board Obsessed High Schoolers!!!!!!!!!!111 one!!!!

i agree. i was waitlisted too and im not nearly as qualified haha

*Decision: ACCEPTED!!! *

i have only just checked my email, im on the other side of the globe in Australia. So happy! Btw, my SATs were NOTHING spectacular: i got 610 in one of them! I think my saving grace were my essays, my interview and my high school results.

To those that have been admitted, have you received the Certificate of Admission? Because it says that its attached, but its not. So, I'm a bit freaked out that it could be a mistake, or worse, a cruel joke!

Still, im super excited, and i cant wait to see you all this year!

the message sent in the email is an exact copy of the package letter that you receive in the mail. the part about the certificate refers to the hard copy. when you physically receive your acceptance package, you will get the certificate.

Thanks man :)

Seriously though Guitar, you are veritable proof of the fickle and cruel nature of the admissions process. If you don't end up getting in off the waitlist, I'll make sure to track Viscardi down and shake his had for you.

Me: "Yo Viscardi, Guitar says hi."
Viscardi: "What the ****?"

Rejected.............

thanks hotpiece101, you have put me muchly at ease.

haha. Well, I do have a name, but that might serve to better confuse him :)

Guitar, I know you'll do great at Yale if you decide to attend, and I know I'll read about one of your crazy Astrophysics theorems some day ;)

or Guitar could go to the Institute and meet Viscardi himself :P

Decision: HOLY CRAP ACCEPTED

Subjective:

* Essays: I thought they were okayish: one about my mom as an inspirational figure, another about my childhood in China, and a short one about my passion for the violin
* Teacher Recs: I didn't read them, but I loved the teachers who wrote them!
* Counselor Rec: Very very good
* Interview: Pretty good: I was kind of intimidated the whole time though
* Hook (if any): well-roundedness? I have absolutely no idea whatsoever. I'm like the typical Asian stereotype too!

Location/Person:

* State or Country: WA
* School Type: Huge Public School
* Ethnicity: Chinese
* Gender: Female

Other Factors:

* Extracurriculars: Several strong leadership positions on the district level with community service (it's pretty much my life); Summer internship with gynecologist at cancer research center; State science, math, music and community service honors, played varsity tennis

Okay, so I've been crying like a baby for the past few hours...I feel like the luckiest girl in the entire world right now...I seriously did not believe this could happen, which just goes to show how anything is possible! I've also been accepted to Brown PLME, Northwestern HPME and Berkeley...my rejection from MIT is a thing of the past!
Thank you, Collegeconfidential members, for all the help and support you've given for the past four years. I just want to really point out to all Harvard prospees to GO FOR YOUR DREAMS, MY ACCEPTANCE PROVES THAT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2290 (790M, 720CR, 780W)
[] SAT IIs: Math IIC 760, Chem 750, Bio M 740, US Hist 710
[] GPA: 4.52ishW, 3.98UW
[] Rank: n/a (see below)
[] Other stats: 5's on four AP's, 4's on two
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I think the main essay was great. Sent in a supplementary piece, too.
[] Teacher Recs: Since I'm homeschooled, I sent in my recs from my community college teachers. One rec was amazing ("this is the most gifted person I know"), and the other one was good but not necessarily solid.
[] Counselor Rec: my mom wrote it, more of a description of my involvement in school/EC's
[] Hook (if any): Siemens-Westinghouse Semi, did Stanford CCIS internship (my mentor wrote me a strong rec), coordinated summer science clubs for kids, writing a book manuscript, taught a Shakespeare class for homeschoolers
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type: homeschooled (attend CC for math & science)
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[li] Gender: female[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Being homeschooled may have given me an edge, as did pursuing CC classes (I'll have 78 semester units by graduation)

General Comments: Wow college admissions is such a crapshoot. I was accepted to Stanford EA, Rice, and Columbia, but I was rejected by Harvard and Yale. I've been planning on Stanford since I got in, so it's not really a big disappointment that I didn't get into H & Y. Just funny that one can send the same exact app to schools that have very similar acceptance rates and get wildly disparate results.

At any rate, Stanford is my dream school, so it's like, "All right, only one Ivy, but who cares?" (don't want to sound rude to those of you whose first choice is/was an Ivy) I can't wait until September!

Decision: Waitlisted

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: IL
[] School Type: Jesuit prep school
[] Ethnicity: European-American
[] Gender: Male
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: I'm a pretty crazy person who is able to combine a lot of different things... like amazing academic accomplishments with just being an overall fun person (i.e. I am an A&F Brand Rep.)
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Well I was told in February by my admissions officer that she thought it would work out for me getting in, one way or another. I was somewhat thinking I'd get in... but am sure if I keep pressing this I can at the least get myself into the class of 2011 off the "z" list.
[] Is Harvard your #1 choice?: Yes
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Meanwhile I will be sending my deposit in to secure my spot in the class of 2010 at one of the few schools Harvard loses a substantial number of admits to: the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown. ;-)

HARVARD Decision: Rejected

[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Strength- I'm different. Weakness- I'm too different to be really valuable to the school as a graduate.
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I think they were afraid to reject me because I showed signs of mental instability :)
[li] Is Harvard your #1 choice?: No. Amherst is (on most days)[/li][/ul]Other Factors: I figured out what to do with my life three months after I sent all the college apps out. I now have thrown every goal I presented therein out the window, and they flew away to the fool's gold mine in the sky.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Hey y'all, have a cool time at Harvard. I'll be chillin' with the homies in a small free-love commune somewhere.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I'm quite honored, to be frank. I was denied from Dartmouth and waitlisted at Georgetown and Johns Hopkins, so I never expected this. I think it probably had something to do with all the good feedback I got.

Other Factors: I was probably impossible to decide on, since I did everything so weirdly. I'll just update them on awards now and bug them like hell.
