@Interficio: good luck on your interview!

Also, yay for fellow JCL’er! Did you go to the convention at EKU this past summer? Talking to the president of NJCL this summer was actually what convinced me to go EA :)

I was at eku! Eliot seemed pretty awesome and cool. Though his final speech to his teacher felt a little creepy lol. I’m more worried about this year’s president eeking out a classicst spot. (I know him fairly well). Can I just tell you I’m really psyched for my jcl state conventin in three weeks!

Does anyone know if Harvard is strict about the word limit on the common app?

Mine was 100 words over. They don’t stop reading, right?

@ collegeinfo1994: Keep in mind that when you uploaded your essay, it was automatically converted to a PDF. A PDF file is more of a picture than of an actual document; therefore, there would be no way for the admissions officers to determine whether you went over the “limit” (which really is more of a guideline than an actual limit), unless they had no lives and counted the words one by one. So as long as your essay fits on one page and appears to be about 500 words long, you shouldn’t be penalized. ;)

I am so glad to find this thread! Its nice (and scary!) to know other kids who went through the application process, too!

Quick Question: Have any of you attended Harvard SSP and do you think it will boost one’s application? I went last summer and it was a great experience. It definitely gives you an idea of what it is like to be a student and experience campus life.

Also, did any of you guys submit add’l essays with your supplement? I did…

Best of luck to everyone!

PS: about what percent of the 2016 class do you think adcom will fill with EA applicants?

@Interficio: Whoa!!! What?!? Our TX state convention isn’t held until the end of March! We don’t even have area competition until February!
I can’t go to nationals again this year because our school has this really dumb rule of going every other year
Elliot was so cool! He totally convinced me from applying EA to Yale, which is what I had been planning to do. I thought his speech was endearing, but all of my guy friends who were there thought it was a little odd too
Is Daniel doing EA as well?

In an effort to not completely derail this thread with NJCL stuff…

@collegeinfo1994: I think as long as you don’t go overboard with something like 800 words, you’ll be fine. But send it to an English teacher first to see if s/he can cut out any superfluous words.

@Calgirl, you can copy and paste it into a word document. I wonder if adcoms do this to adjust the font and spacing…and look at the word count. I hope not

@Quillabee, yes, I submitted an extra essay about the role of research in my life.

@collegeinfo1994: I don’t think they have the time to copy/paste 30,000 applications into word to see if we follow directions. I think they have better ways to spend their time :)

does anyone have an idea of the acceptance rate/numbers predicted for this year or for past EA? theres alot of number crunching, when one takes into account recruited athletes, legacies, URMs, and ultra-applications… leaving a small amount of spots for borderline people…

hahah true, true!

My guidance counselor told me that she went to some info session for a school (don’t remember where), where they actually do stop reading after 500 words! Craaazy.

Meh I’m bored. Chance? I’ll return the favor

Reflection
Strengths: zeal for science in my essay, possibly extracurriculars
Weaknesses: scores are meh, I believe according to Harvard statistics, and possibly lack of focus in EC’s. I would have started up science-related clubs, but unfortunately, nobody that I know has signed on board concerning such things. Hope the essay and interview compensate for such things.

also, in reference to superscore: took SAT twice: 1st 2180, 2210 2nd.

Fyodor, please do not post chance posts in this thread. This thread was not created for that purpose.

If you do want to get chances, then please post your stats on the “What’s my Chance” thread.

Anyone want to talk hypotheticals with me? It’s kind of moot at this point but it’s the only thing concerning me… I reside in VA, but am a citizen of El Salvador (hence, international). Does anyone know if I will be compared to those in VA regionally, or those of El Salvador/Central America? Also, even though I don’t reside there, would colleges still find me “diverse” because of the country of origin? Would they be legally able to list me among enrolled people of El Salvador even though I don’t live there if I got in? What a weird situation… Things would be so much easier with a green card…

I have the same question as Interficio! I’m a Canadian citizen but have not yet received a green card (even though I applied for one 2 years ago). I was raised in Singapore, attended the American school there during my underclassman years, and then moved to the US for junior/senior year. Now I’m taking a gap year after high school. I’m wondering how I will be compared to others…

Does Harvard send you a message to indicate that your application is completed?

They email you a site where you can check the status of all the required materials

So I received an honor recently for tennis (after I submitted my common app). I was wondering if I should notify the admissions office about it? (I don’t want to sound annoying, but I would like to have it on my application.)
Thanks for your help :)

They have a specific email account for sending updates. Call the admission office and ask about it.

@Quillabee…I submitted an extra essay…mostly because my class rank/SAT/SAT Subject Tests are not impressive at all. I am actually kind of sad about it at the moment lol.

Has anyone had their interviews yet? How did it go? I have mine on Saturday and I am so nervous!

I am actually just nervous in general now. I want it to be December 15th, but then again, I don’t…:/
