Once i used the email on their admissions site and they sent me this weird response that didn’t answer my question at all.

I am quite sure I used this one, or at least, this is where the response i received came from :)

fileroom@fas.harvard.edu

But I found it on the website…I think through the personal page thing. They offered categories and emails that coincided with our questions…the fileroom is specifically for checking on application materials. best of luck!

I used that email to send them an update for my file, and I received an automatic response that the email was received.

I think it depends on what you put as the subject line. I was specifically told to use “update for (my full name)”

4,245 early applicants to Harvard this year. An increase of 200 from 2007, when they had 4008. Assuming 900 acceptances in the early pool, that’s a rate of 21.2%. If they reject 5% outright, that’s 73.8% or 3133 that’ll get deferred. Just some quick math.

Thanks!^

Anyone know what the acceptance rate was for the EA pool in 2007?

^ i doubt it will be 900 acceptances from the early pool b/c they only have 1,600 in each class.
i think 700 acceptees at most.

No judging me on this, guys.

Also, @m00nlight22: You make a valid point. They only have 1600 per class but apparently 2200 acceptances. I’m not sure what to make of that, other than 600 people turn down Harvard every year. A lot of places where I found data put SCEA acceptances at around 800-900.

Do you mind including matriculation? Or/And final class size?

Edit: I doubt there will be 35k applicants. The big jump from 2007 onward is because early round got canceled, and people might’ve thought more people would get accepted throught the regular round. Now early is back, people hesitate to apply becuase almost half the class has already been accepted.

FYI, each class is a little over 1600 and they hand out a little over 2000-2200 acceptances. With a yield of around 75-80%+, this works out to a few dozen coming off the waiting list each year.

Yes, a few hundred turn down Harvard every year. Everyone has their reasons.

I’m thankful for the “What are my chances” and past results sections. Everytim I feel confident about my application, I can go back and being sure of my rejection. It keeps me grounded.

^haha story of my life. don’t worry too much though. ha! That coming from me after all of my obsessing and craziness…but really though I am having an “i’m relaxed and will be able to cope with my rejection through finding other things to live for” week. I think it is a direct result of all of the…“you know your not getting into that school, right?” crap that has been coming from my mother in the past week. But really though, Harvard is an awesome school and I would kill to go there…(okay not kill but…figure of speech) but if they don’t accept you, screw em. :)

^Healthy attitude right there! I visited my state university twice in the last month on overnight trips they invite students on, and I realized I would be just as happy there. It’s always a good idea to have a safety school that you’d like to attend as well, so if (when) that rejection comes, you won’t hate college :)

The wait is so nerve racking, so unbearable!!!

^ Wait till most of us get deferred. Then we have to wait for an additional three months. :(

I wonder how many of us are fighting over those blank spots

Is anyone else buying into the insanity that is Black Friday? I’m planning to get all of my dorm essentials without being crushed by sleep-deprived soccer moms. It’s a precarious business, but fun nonetheless :)

Did anyone have to do two interviews? I did my second one with the regional chairman of interviewing and he assured me it was a positive, but is it really? Some of the posts I’ve read about second interviews on CC weren’t very encouraging.

Whatever else it might mean, getting 2 interviews can’t mean your app got tossed in the reject pile after one look.

what! did the regional rep contact you directly for an additional interview? That must be GOOD. No way that’s bad. Why would they waste their time to interview someone they didn’t really like…?

What do you guys think about the impact of interviews in general?

Make it or break it kind of thing or just a minor part of the application?
