Official Harvard SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

@guesswho I’m actually applying to MIT, but people give me the same responses, like “Of course you’ll get in, stop pretending like there’s a chance it won’t happen.” It’s frustrating, even though I love my safety schools and would have no problem attending any one of them, I feel like if I don’t go to MIT, I would have let everyone down.

@Whateverhappens we all feel the same way.
anyway you at least have safety schools. being an international applying for financial aid, i dont even have that option. i might not even get into any of the colleges in your country…:(

@sebelius
yayy!! I’m not crazy, my Harvard sweatshirt hangs in front of my closet too :slight_smile:
It freaks me out

i was just wondering…if we get rejected SCEA, are we allowed to apply again?

Most applicants will get deferred… not accepted or rejected. My guess is that few of you folks here on CC will get rejected at this stage.

Akashdip I have the same issue. Except I live in the us so if I don’t get into any ivy or top lac, I honestly will not be able to afford school. Not even the local CC. So it’s safe to say that this process has proved even more stressful.

@indiagirl - If you get rejected in SCEA then you are done with the admissions process for that year. If you get deferred (which most people will be) then your application is considered with all of the people who apply RD.

Does anybody know if we need the password that we used to check our application status? I forgot mine and deleted the email that told me how to obtain it. Will we need this password to check decisions/do anything else?

@Tennuggler: you might want the access code if your email happens to be one of those snail mails. You can request a new one here: https://admapp.admissions.fas.harvard.edu/hanevo/applicant/forgotAccessCode.do</a>
I logged on to my status page way too many times that I just memorized by number. :D

My Harvard shirts are out, too! I wear mine to my sleep.

Yes, but not until a future year.

If we get deferred, do we have to reapply and pay another application fee? I could really use that $75.

Deferred just puts you right into the RD pool, nothing else required. Except I wonder about needing to update financial aid forms. Probably have to.

Thanks RarissimaAvis!

@ whateverhappens: YES! That is so true! I have this weight that if I don’t get in, I will let everyone down! Good luck on MIT!

I can’t believe our fate has been sealed today! Best wishes to everyone. I am so ready for this semester to be over! Extra hours of sleep…oh yeah! :)

So on the Applicant Status website, it says:

"Services available for:

 • Early Action applicants: October 3 to December 13
 • Freshman applicants: October 3 to March 29
 • Transfer applicants: October 3 to May 3"

Does that mean that if we can’t access the Applicant Status page on the 14th, we have a final decision (accepted/rejected)? OR am I just getting my hopes up?

@not a kid: you may also have to complete the FAFSA as well.

@sebelius: OMG, you’re a genius. I think your right!!

So, I just logged in to check the status of my app and it’s not letting me log-in; I type in my code/ last name and then hit login but the page refreshes…should I be worried??? It says the portal is open until Dec 13 and today definitely does not equal Dec 13.

@sebelius and rarissimaavis, I feel that the application status page is different from the admitted students page, but in my current situation…

@Quillabee93: I was able to log in. Anyone else?

@Quillabee93

It’s a coding glitch. Type in an incorrect password/last name combo and it’ll send you to this page that says incorrect, try again. Click it and relog in with your info. It should work this time.
