Really, xjgege? Can anyone confirm whether this is true for all regions haha?

it’s just a rumor, my mom heard it from a friend at WashU who supposedly does alumni interviews

I’ve heard that Harvard recruits around 200 athletes in the EA round. That leaves around 500-600 places for non-recruited students. So acceptance ‘chances’ are basically down to around 13-14%.

I probably sound like I’m a horrible slacker when it comes to picking out colleges to people, simply because I don’t like answering them with specific colleges. Most people at my school apply to schools where they know they’re going to get in only. Since I’m applying to schools with tougher admissions, I don’t want to deal with people asking me about them if I don’t get in.

Good luck to you guys! Wish I could have applied SCEA as well. :3

I heard it too that interviewers know 3 days before we do! My interviewer told me!!

I go to a medium-sized, but non-competitive public high school in Washington State.
I’m pretty sure I’m the ONLY person from my high school that is applying to Harvard.

So, for you East Coasters and for those that attend private/feeder/competitive schools: how common is it for people at your school to apply for Harvard?

Is it mostly only the 2400/4.0/EC-heavy students, or is really common because people just want to see if maybe they could get in?

@amontobin I go to school on the East Coast at a pretty big public high school (~1500 kids) and we have about 30 kids who apply every year and about 1-3 get in. And the average SAT is like 2200 and the GPA is 4.7/5.0 weighted. So, I guess it’s not all valedictorian types who apply, but their stats are pretty high.

@amon

I attend a public magnet school. From my experience, most people don’t apply SCEA to Harvard because, well, it’s SC. Pretty much everyone has better chances elsewhere. There’s some more applicants in the regular round, but it’s definitely not everyone. Historically about 15-20% of the class apply.

@amontobin - I’m on the East Coast. I come from a small, very affluent town. My school is relatively small (there are <300 kids in my grade). We haven’t sent a kid to Harvard since 1987 (lol). The average GPA/SAT is 3.0/1510. We’re pretty average except the majority of kids have rich parents. We look stellar simply because I’m in a small, ****ty state. Only 1-2 people apply every year - usually our valedictorian/salutatorian. But my class is very unique. There is a huge discrepancy between the top 2 SAT scores and then everyone else’s. Basically, if you try really hard…you’ll get that 4.0. Not much intelligence is required. All you need to do is memorize vocab/formulas. The past few classes have been very high performing…and mine sucks hahaha.

@mavericks17 - your harvard interviewer told you that they know 3 days in advance?

I was told the admissions committee deliberate until tomorrow where they finalize their decisions. Not sure though…

Lol…anyone else not tell anyone they were applying? My family and two bestfriends know - mostly because they would feel a tad betrayed if even after 10 years of friendship I dont tell them. But, I kinda just go “ahhh…I dont know where I’m applying…maybe I’ll enlist!” or just simply “…a school.”

@NewYork94 yes but i don’t think that my interviewer will tell me either way idk

Just to clarify for malaysian candidate interviews:
“Candidates will be contacted by interviewers if they are short-listed.” - according to the Harvard club of malaysia. I assume that obtaining an interview indicates you have made it past the ‘first round’ for most international students too.

Good luck to everybody! Results are literally around the corner.

Ugh, I’ve also read on their website (I think?) That they do deliberate and could change your decision up until the day they are mailed out. How nerve-wracking.

And mavericks17, I suppose you’re right. I’ve thought about emailing my interviewer, but it’s probably not worth the annoyance and such that could be caused

@NewYork94 my friend applying to Brown just had her interview today…its so crazy that the slightest thing could tip the balance.

I go to a relatively small school where almost nobody gets into Ivies. We had one kid go to H a few years ago and a Penn kid too but that was it. Nobody in recent years.

Two people are applying from my school to Harvard early. One is me, and the other is a pretty average student but she’s double-hooked. It’d be sweet if we both got in.

someone several posts back, I forget who, mentioned his/her dental procedure plans for thursday (lol). what are you all planning to do? It’s 4:00 for me, about an hour after school gets out so I’m walking over to my best friend’s house and we’re probably going to bake something while madly refreshing my email account on her computer. I think she’s as excited/anxious as I am haha. then when I find out, I’ll have to call my parents, both at work, and text my brother…and then I’ll have yummy food to eat whether it’s good or bad news!

Interviewers do not know of decisions until a week after we do…I know bc my mom interviews.
