Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

@2019mom, I did it in commonapp. But then you need to create a “my colleges” list. The way I understand it, you will have to submit common app to Harvard eventually, and this is the place to do it.

Other people, please comment.

nomatterwhat@ We also have the “my colleges” list. When I expand “Harvard” from the list, under “Recommenders and FERPA”, I see there is a yellow dot beside “Teacher”, and there is a paragraph under “Teacher”:
“Your school is using Naviance eDocs for transcripts, school reports, and teacher recommendations. Please contact your counselor directly and they will provide instructions specific to your school regarding these documents. Once your teachers submit their recommendations online you will see the status below”.
Required: 2 Allowed: 3

No status showing there, so I am guessing none of the teacher has submitted his recommendation letter yet.

Anyone else who hasn’t started? haha my common app is in its final revisions, but I haven’t clicked the Harvard tab on common app yet…

I still haven’t started my supplements, though I know what I’m gonna write about.

Guys ^^^ get started!!! You don’t wanna be pressed for time later! Also, your best writing may be the one you get to think long and hard about! lol Good luck.

I’m so confused about the Harvard supplement. I can’t find the topic when I google it, and on Common App it just says something about an optional essay. Is this the supplement?

@PoisonIvy20‌ You’ve got me panicking. I haven’t even started my Common App essay (though I have an idea what I’ll write about). Going to start tonight. Thanks for giving me the boost I needed to get started. #CHRONICPROCRASTINATOR

@tetrisfiend yup, that’s the essay

They gave some prompts for optional essay. But we are not limited to those, right? Do you think 600 words is about the right length?

@nomatterwhat‌ No you are not limited to those. It says you can write about whatever you want or you could choose from the prompts they give you.

And yes I would think they want 250-650 words

Yes it is @tetrisfiend‌ . It is optional though. There is also:

“Briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences.”

This is located under other information when you click on the questions tab for Harvard.

Do we have to submit the documents needed for financial aid before November 1st? Would I not be able to get financial aid if I miss the deadline?

Hey everyone!
I just submitted my application two weeks ago.
I got my status portal info but I have a question.
Since I submitted my financial aid forms by paper ( through mail) , how does it show in the status portal page? Is it a separate category or is it considered part of miscellaneous category?
Any help will be really appreciated!
@mindyru‌ , I know that u must submit it by 1st Nov. because it is the deadline, but I don’t know what happens if u don’t submit it on time.
It’s best that u submit it on time, better safe than sorry.

good for you PcollegegirlP! I’m working on the supplement essay. Hopefully in a week or so I’ll turn it in. I have a question for you - after you turn your application in, do you have a way to check if everything is there? including the transcript, SAT scores, and teachers letters?

Wassup guys. I’m from the UK following the same path as you, but I have a question- how much would Harvard in particular prioritise SATs and ACT grades above other standardised examinations? I’m wondering just in case my ACT and SAT II don’t turn out brilliantly I could fall back on my good iGCSEs and 41 IB prediction…

@nomatterwhat‌ yes you do have a way to check!
Once u submit ur application, around two weeks later u will receive an email from harvard giving you a link and a code. You use the code to make a password.(easy process)
Then u can log in and check ur status. For the first few days nothing may be visible, but a few days later the info will be updated.
On the page you can see:
Application, school report, transcripts,Sat or act, Reccomendations status!
I don’t know why, but it doesn’t show the financial aid. I sent mine by mail not online.
So does anyone else know why my financial aid isn’t showing?
Or is the financial aid under the name of another category such as Miscellaneous or Additional academic material?
@skieurope‌ , @cx500r‌ maybe u guys know since have submitted your applications!
Any help will be appreciated. :)

@LucasKovacs‌ - International students are given tons of leeway when it comes to SAT/ACT scores (in comparison to American students). I know a Brazilian girl who got into Harvard with a prediction of 40+ but only 1900 on her SAT. They realize internationals don’t spend as much time on standardized testing preparation, especially since most students first hear about them the year they decide on applying.

^^ Amen for that. I’m an international applicant predicted 44, but I didn’t get more than 1960 on the SAT. AO told me I “shouldn’t worry excessively”. Same goes for not having to submit two SAT subject tests- it is such a hassle, and I’m glad you don’t have to as of this year… @PcollegegirlP‌ I don’t think financial aid should be displayed. In any case, contact the Financial Aid office, they are the ones dealing with that, independently from the Admissions Office from what I understood. The section you are referring to is only for uploading additional material. Cheers

@WooTheDay‌ well thank God the SAT score isn’t everything! I am giving the test tomorrow so wish me the best and pray for me! I’m not doing that well in practice tests my scores are below 2000!
@cx500r‌ thnx ! I will call them next week! So I am guessing that your status page doesn’t include anything about financial aid apart from whether u applied for it or not, right?

@PcollegegirlP‌ Glad to help! Though the page, as you write, mentions that I did apply for FinAid, it doesn’t give me anything more specific than that.
