[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): HiMCM national outstanding, National AP, ISEF (too late/lazy to report), A few other national science olympiads, but no finalist so not important.
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): pretty standard leadership, Cap of science bowl team, cap of math team, president of Chinese club, principal oboist (ex-1st, lost chair this year due to time constraints)
Science research, Piano, Oboe, a few other teams like x-country, debate, and robotics i did for fun but dropped out during senior year so didn’t put on app.
[] Job/Work Experience: Research internship in BME at a UC, private tutoring, a few other misc jobs here and there.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Hospital volunteer, a few service clubs, typically volunteer on weekends with friends to kill time (when i’m not busy) a few hundred hours
[] Summer Activities: Research + courses at university
[] Essays: Common app was a very good essay, 9ish Optional one was… (I recycled my Stanford roommate essay for this one… though it was pretty unique, it was definitely on the short side, I’d give it like 5 ish.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Calc BC teacher: Fantastic, Bio teacher: pretty good, since it mentions a lot of my science ECs.
[] Counselor Rec: Don’t know, I think she likes me.
[] Additional Rec: Rec from professor that oversaw the research, I think she likes me so should be good

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: unique experience growing up
[] Weaknesses: mediocre SAT reasoning, got lazy on harvard supplement essay, just in general pretty average for an Asian.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Stanford (EA), UC Berkeley (Regents), UCD (regents), UCSD (chancellors), UCLA (invited to regents but didn’t apply)
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: MIT(withdrew, since I know i’d take stanford over mit and a few other kids from our school wanted to get in pretty badly) wha? haha, got lucky here.
[/ul]General Comments: Basically I lost interest in the college app process after Stanford notified EA since it was my dream school, it saved me more than 600 bucks. I definitely could’ve done better on my Harvard App.
On the bright side, decisions are obvious now; all signs are now GO for Stanford!

Decision: Rejected But at least I was accepted into Stanford! :D

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

Decision: Rejected

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): Didn’t send.
[] ACT: 34 composite (35E, 30M, 36R, 33S, 9 essay)
[] SAT II (if submitted): 800 Bio M, 740 Chem, 740 Lit
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 94.7 UW at my high school, which I think translates to a 3.9. 3.88 for my college work (two Bs last semester).
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 8/330 weighted (what my school uses for val/sal). 2/330 unweighted. My weighted rank dropped since my high school doesn’t weight college courses.
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5), Human Geography (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: Microeconomics, Microbiology, Physics, Biology, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Spanish, a graduate-level English/film course, American Government. They’re all college courses.
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Bronze medal at ISWEEEP, National Achievement and Merit (only semifinalist at time of application), some other science fair awards, STAR Student (highest SAT in my school), prestigious merit scholarship at the university I take classes at.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Intramural ultimate frisbee, soccer, flag football, and softball (2 years), yearbook executive (2 years), ambassador for my school (1 year), microbiology and neuroscience research (3 years), a Nigerian cultural organization (4 years), a leadership program run by my county (1 year), JV basketball (2 years)
[] Job/Work Experience: None at the time of application.
[] Volunteer/Community service: I’ve worked with local refugees for 2 years.
[] Essays: Common App- I wrote about my interest in Japanese and Korean music lol. Sounds lame, but it seems to be working. It’s not the best thing ever written, because creative writing isn’t my forte, but it showed my appreciation of diversity and world cultures and my sense of humor. I did the supplement differently. I wrote about my research, but it wasn’t in narrative style. Maybe that’s not what they were looking for.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Should be good. Both were from professors. One was actually a former Harvard undergrad who used to be editor-in-chief for one of Harvard’s biggest publications.
[] Counselor Rec: Should also be good. She knows me very well.
[] Additional Rec: Didn’t send.
[] Interview: It was ok. My interviewer had a pretty high political position, and we did the interview at her office (but that was my fault because I asked to reschedule). It was kind of intimidating, but she was cool.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: yes

[] Ethnicity: Black (Nigerian-American)
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: about 80k
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Scores, hooks, research, college curriculum
[] Weaknesses: ACT math, two Bs last semester, supplement, my materials got in really late, I sent an email asking if my ACT scores from 10th grade could be deleted because they were sent by accident
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Not what they were looking for, I suppose.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at Yale (deferred EA), Columbia (likely letter and Kluge Scholar), Amherst (Early write/Schupf Scholar), Duke (likely), WashU, Emory, GA Tech, Johns Hopkins. No waitlists, and this was my only rejection.
