Let's keep this a decisions only thread, while we continue discussion on the official discussion thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1363362-official-harvard-scea-class-2017-a.html

Good luck everyone!

Do we copy the template as it is into our post, or do we have to do something to activate the special fonts (moving around spaces etc)?

Just copy and paste. Everything inside the [] brackets will go away, and the text will be rendered normally. Type the information after each colon, and make sure to delete two of the three results, depending on what happened (delete the whole line, including things in brackets).

Try copying it into a new post, and press “preview” to see how it turns out.

When are decisions coming out?

Emails will be sent at 5pm Harvard time on Thursday, December 13th. Mail is on December 15th, although I’m not sure if that is the send date or the receive date. There is a possibility that you will know if you are deferred by 12 midnight tonight if you check the online portal and your status has been changed to Regular Decision.

@student2407 is that just something you just assumed or did you hear that was a possibility

@student2407 wait are you serious?

Harvard is shutting down the online portal for early applicants tonight:

"Services available for:

 • Early Action applicants: October 3 to December 11** "

I think it’s just something he’s guessing. Honestly, I bet Harvard has closed all ways of finding out our decision before we receive the email.

And so it begins… Ahh, now I’m finally feeling the nerves after seeing this thread, haha.

Stop posting, guys.

That is something I assumed/heard in the other thread on here. As of right now, (0:07) it has not changed for me.

Less than an hour now. I’m just bumping this up. Good luck to everyone!

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: How do I know
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Sending out applications now[/li][/ul]General Comments:
I didn’t try in high school. Even this year, I slacked off. And I also had a bad type A mentality. I did everything for the grade and the resume. While I did enjoy my activities genuinely, I didn’t pursue them out of enjoyment or passion. That’s the only reason everything on my application is decent and not glaringly bad.
Going forward, I’ve learned my lesson. For the rest of this year and college, I will step it up a notch. I matured a lot in high school and still can mature some more. I’m going to enjoy my life more and really start doing things that I want to do. Because that’s the only way I will get somewhere :)

Decision: Deferred

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2350 - 800 CR, 760 M, 790 W in one sitting
[] ACT:
[] SAT II: 750 Math II, 760 Chem
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): n/a
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): n/a
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): BC Calc (5), Physics (5 on both)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: Economics, English Elective, Biology Research Course, AP Russian, US History
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): published co-author on an academic paper
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): School Community Service Program (chair), academic enrichment nonprofit I’ve worked with for three years (student chair), student alumni rep, environmental activism (sustainability proctor)
[] Job/Work Experience:
[] Volunteer/Community service: a ton of community service with meal kitchens, alternative spring breaks/summer trips, and an enrichment program for middle-school kids
[] Summer Activities: computer science intern, extended travel and service-learning in India
[] Essays: kinda cliched summer service-learning trip, but I thought I did it in an original way… about how I’ve changed over the past years and how I hope to change and be changed in the future. For the supplement I sent in a book/film/event/publication list…
[] Teacher Recommendation: Russian teacher (my mentor for 3 years now, offered unsolicited) and Physics teacher (who went on an alternative spring break trip with me).
[] Counselor Rec: I go to a prep school, so pretty darn good. (like, they take teacher and dorm counselor input from the past three years and really put in some effort)
[] Additional Rec: Former head of community service program. Knowing he was writing for me gave me the confidence to apply early.
[] Interview: I don’t know how well it went, but it was my favorite out of every interview I’ve ever done. I was genuinely really interested in talking to the guy and came out of it really, really excited about college in general.

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): a * ton of legacy
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: genuine community service involvement. strong writing voice. really great people going to bat for me. girl with strong grades in high level STEM. Also very strong legacy, but harvard has a ton of that already.
[] Weaknesses: not much outside extracurricular involvement. competition with other prep school kids. no major awards, undecided about future major, didn’t take math senior year
