[] Strengths: EC’s, GPA, AP’s, Essays, ACT’s.
[] Weaknesses: Counselor Rec, SAT, SATII
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I really don’t know… I’m just so depressed. I wasn’t very emotional at first but it’s progressively getting worse. It’s all an enigma. Perhaps my SATII’s, perhaps my counselor’s rec…I just dont know.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: N/A[/li][/ul]General Comments: Congrats to everyone who was accepted. You guys are brilliant and I know you will go on to do extraordinary things. I could not be happier for you. I’m just not the type to envy others or be bitter. To those deferred: hang in there. I mean i might sound hypocritical simply because I’m just so devastated but just hang in there. My advice may seem empty since even I can’t seem to actually take it. But it’s okay. To the rejected, do not fear. Don’t lose that fire, that spark, that innate drive to succeed that led you to choose Harvard as your early action school.

@brownseller I’m really happy you got accepted. You obviously must have earned it and the admissions committee saw something in…that I cannot see. But calm down, “amigo.” Please control what you say and dont disgrace the name of the school you are about to attend with such immature and rudimentary post.

@ram0276

…Are you serious man? Do you honestly believe he was accepted? Do you know what a ■■■■■ is? Seriously man…come on.

@starktony

Omg hahahahah eff! I feel like such an idiot. (Probably why I got deferred lol). I’m actually looking right now. My bad!

Loling* oops

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/li][/ul]General Comments:

i am pretty suprised about some ppl that got in and others that didn’t get in, like some of the apps were pretty impressive but others were like “you are applying to harvard? for reals?”, i thought harvard would only take 2350ish sat I kids. but for those that are deferred, i think the chances of getting in are even less, since your apps are reviewed after all the rd apps are read, but it’s mostly the affirmative actions that ****es me off the most, like favoring less qualified minorities over people who have put in more hard work and dedication over the years and who have been working towards this goal for a long time

@SeeYou: You are the epitome of what’s wrong in college applications and CC. Harvard and other top universities select those they feel will best represent their college and create a diverse class. SAT scores are just a number. You’re admitted by your total package.

And how dare you insinuate that minorities are somehow inferior or have worked less hard at getting into college? That’s pure stupidity. Bottom line, top tier admissions want passionate, driven, interesting people, and saying someone doesn’t deserve to be admitted because they don’t have perfect scores is just wrong.

@SeeYou

you know what the funniest thing is?

these “less qualified minorities” will make much more of an impact on the world than you ever would

good luck to you in your college admissions

sincerely

a “less qualified minority” that got into a school across the river from Harvard

Deferred! Let’s go one more time, SAT!

Decision: Deferred

AP (place score in parenthesis): Lang (4), Chem (5), Calc BC (5; AB subscore-5), US History (5), World History (5), Psychology (5), Biology (5)
IB (place score in parenthesis):
Senior Year Course Load: AP Literature and Composition, AP Econ, AP Gov, Adv Scientific Internship/Research, Georgia Tech Calc II, GT Calc III, Post-AP Robotics
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National AP Scholar with Distinction, 2nd Place Georgia Brain Bee, 1st Place Cobb EMC WYT Scholarship & Competition, other small school awards

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Chess Club, Leadership Club (Vice President), Magnet Advisory Board (secretary; president), Math Team, Helping Hands, Habitat for Humanity, Interact Club (founder & president), Student Government (student body vice president, sophomore class president); started a non-profit organization and raised over $5,000 for medical research for a neurological disorder
Job/Work Experience: Internships–Emory University Cardio Lab, Kaleidoscope (school for autistic children), Congressman Price’s office
Volunteer/Community service: 200+
Summer Activities: a bunch of summer camps and internships
Essays: I thought my common app and supplement were both really good. Very honest and real. Especially the suppliment–did the letter to a roommate and it was about my passion for writing
Teacher Recommendation: thought they were pretty good, one of the teacher’s had written me recs for three other programs, all of which I ended up getting into. Read the other one and it seemed pretty cut and dry but it wasn’t bad
Counselor Rec: Probably pretty great because we were working on a one-on-one level and she only had one other student to right
Additional Rec: didn’t have one
Interview: It went really well, and he seemed extremely impressed. Now I think back on it and just keep picking a bunch of things that must have been wrong, but overall he seemed to really like me and I got to say everything I hadn’t put on my app

Other
State (if domestic applicant): GA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public Magnet
Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: ~150,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

Reflection
Strengths: Academics
Weaknesses: No hooks.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I don’t really know… not well-rounded enough?
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted to UGA (Honors Program as well) and Georgia Tech

General Comments: I was extremely upset at first–well, I guess I still am. I mean, I’ve been staying pretty pessimistic, but I did have that glimmer of hope when I was waiting for the email. I’ve been aiming for this my whole life, and failure just makes it feel like everything I’ve done is a waste. I know it sounds very whiny and ridiculous, but I think only a few people can really understand what it means. But congratulations to those of you who got in, and good luck to everyone on this next round.
