Official Harvard University RD Class Of 2017 Thread

Hey Everyone! I decided to apply to Harvard this summer, and I guess I’ve got my fingers crossed from now until march. I’ve got an average application as well and it was pretty painful watching all the great applicants who got deferred early. I’m also applying to UPenn, Cornell, and Emory RD. I’m looking to study biology and I’m an african American male. Are there any others in this thread? Good luck to everyone and I will definitely be wishing luck to those with SATs coming in tomorrow, ill be looking forward to checking mine!

@harvardhopeful19 I applied scea and didn’t submit the “optional” additional essay. Since I was deferred, I’ve blamed it on that though I’m sure there were multiple other reasons for my deferral. I recommend doing it; it can only help!

oldfashioned : Haha, yes true. Thats a good part though, we’re never socially excluded, because there are always south asians around, no matter where you go! :stuck_out_tongue:
Wishing well for your SATs !

TreiTheTruth - All the best buddy! Finished with your apps yet?

theowlgoeshoot - all the best in RD !

I’m waiting for results too . They might seal my future T_T ! I’m an “afro-european” female, if you want to know
To @guyinblue Well, I don’t know that much southern asian (one is half pakistani, half vietnamese) and the ones I know are good at school but nothing really exceptionnal. Meaning they’re good but not far better than the other students and for some of them, seem to have a rich social life, including partying and so on. Each is different, therefore I don’t have any stereotypes about Indians.

@guyinblue Yeah! I sent my application in right on the 15th. How about you? I’m still waiting on my last few sat/act scores to come in so I can send those. Waiting on my interview date now I guess

And I wrote an additional essay as well @harvardhopeful19 I felt like I needed to!

@harvardhopeful19
I applied SCEA and didn’t write the additional essay. I was accepted so I think that not submitting one will not hurt your chances…

didn’t submit yet, but hopefully i still get an interview!

cool that this is set up.
Thought my harvard essay was my best one, but I guess I’ll have to wait to see what happens.
I’m hoping for an interview too, but you can get in w/o an interview.

I just submitted my application and I added a supplementary essay cuz I felt that my Common App essay didnt include all the things I wanted to say about myself in my application.

Now Im just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

DesperateFrench - Do tell us how it went for you, the results I mean
Well people seem to percieve South Asians as these nerdy people who have no life, and their sole aim is to top their class. haha. :stuck_out_tongue:
Refreshing to hear btw.

TreiTheTruth - Im still writing it haha. I dont know if im getting an interview or not :stuck_out_tongue:
Any of you attached a resume to the CommonApp?

I attached a resume on common app! Most people I know did that, as well. Did anyone do anything creative for Additional Information?

Over the past days I’ve also come to embrace the fact that there is NO WAY I’m getting into Harvard.

I didn’t send a resume, I felt like everything on the resume was pretty much already on the common app! And my additional essay wasn’t wild or anything. It was about a specific event on my tour of harvard a few weeks ago.

Well, my app has just passed from below average to below below average. My parents and friends tell me it’s good since I prepared it in a month (no exagerations, three subjects in a month —>never heard about them until the end of september, decided to take them in october, registered the day before the deadline) and that I’m not used at all to multiple answers questions but the admission comittee just doesn’t care so I guess that my 590 math 2 (can’t find the words to describe my feelings right now, somewhere between disappointment and hopelessness) won’t help even if I had less bad scores in world history and biology E (690 both, still below average). But honestly, I think I don’t even have the slightest shot shot anymore. Anyway, i’m still applying since I started and my counsellor, friends and parents know that and, well, maybe if a miracle happens. Who knows ?

Btw, it is really really frustrating because I really worked well during high-school (except the last two semesters of 11th grade where I got two B+) and I have a stellar average for now (17.5/20—>amazing in france, in my high-school even more) : I still don’t realize that it won’t be enough at all to realize, not a dream, but an achievement I’m sure would have helped me to sart in life the way I wanted to . Anyway, thousands of applicants are rejected every year and most of them (not to say all of them) do really well, even if they didn’t get to the schools they initially wanted to.

Got 790 in world history today! Well pleased considering I condensed a year’s course into under four weeks. Got 710 in literature last month, with only a month to prepare and 2130 in the SAT having had mid-August to October to get it all down.

Oh and I received an email requesting an email today. So happy.

Would you guys think that interviews abroad (specifically the UK) are a little more selective? Do they interview everyone or just the more selective candidates? I know thy interview as many as possible in the States but I’ve heard conflicting view on overseas interviews.

I’ve never heard anything on overseas interviews but I don’t think they’re allowed to be selective…but idk.

GUYS OMG. every time it’s 11:11 i pray for harvard. anyone else?

Oh and…my Harvard supplement is about 3 pages. Too much? It’s very informal and easy to read though, takes about 5 minutes. Not exactly an essay.

Oops, I mean I received an email requesting an interview.
