This coming Friday

FWIW: Over at Yale, they closed the waitlist today as – and this is a quote from an email a student received – “Our matriculation rate increased this year, resulting in more ‘yes’ replies than we had expected.”

Hi all, I was also waitlisted. Lost a bit of hope after reading this:

http://harvardmagazine.com/2014/05/harvard-class-of-18-yield-82-percent

“15 to 20 applicants ultimately admitted”

@gibby does this have any impact on the Harvard waitlist, or is this just an interesting aside?

So do people think they all came out today or are there going to be more this week?

@roozebehmahdavian: It’s an interesting aside that indicates that Harvard’s waitlist window will probably close sooner than in previous years. Good luck to all!

It is hard to totally plan for the future when the future is uncertain.
I will be glad when the wait is over… maybe not…

@ nbreakdown, did u commit to any college on 1st May? If you just treat Harvard wait-list acceptance as a bonus only then you would not feel your future is uncertain…

I’m a mom, not the student, and I’ve got to agree with nbreakdown that the future feels a bit uncertain with the wait list possibility. We’re paying deposits and planning orientation at the other college but there’s the nagging hope that Harvard will call.

@ifleur, i am a mom as well. My daughter is in boarding school now. She won’t update me anything regarding her waitlists. I have no clue at all…

Well, I guess the reality is that moms at college time ought to be on standby instead of involved, which is a big transition for the moms. Darned kids, growing up and all. I think I’d be happy to dial my son back to about 8 years old…

Did anyone hear about any other calls?

My D also heard about a friend of a friend (on facebook) who got a call from Harvard that she was let in off the waitlist. I think these cases are going to be so far and few between, that rumors of them are all we will ever hear. I expect that before the end of the week or next week at the latest, Harvard will have completed their waitlist notices and will be informing (rejecting) the remainders.

@aimhigh2 do you know if your friend submitted any updates or if she had any extra recommendations sent? Did she directly contact her admissions officer? Now’s the time ppl usually get anxious; best of luck to all of you!!

Any news yet?

She sent an update and a recommendation. She didn’t contact her representative directly. Is that even possible?

I have no idea how to contact my representative, so I just sent my update/letter through their general emails.

@romeonachos I did the same.

@AimHigh2 Do you think your facebook friend could be lying about it??

I don’t know if she is lying. I don’t think she is. She seemed really excited about the whole prospect. And according to another poster they also have a Facebook friend who got off the waitlist. Who knows? Maybe a call to Harvard would clear this up.

@AimHigh2 Thanks.
