Anjoola, where are you from? I’m Northern California too

omg… this is ridiculous. Though I don’t think you are an international, so far I think I saw 0 male asians excluding me. Not that I’m complaining (heehee) but it’s just weird.

Mars, look more closely at the Facebook group  I can name one other Asian male and think of one or two more.

oh
k, let’s see…

I found 4 in the facebook group excluding me, so I guess it’s pretty even :p

[] Essays: Good
[] Teacher Recs: Good
[] Counselor Rec: Good
[] Hook (if any): Lived in Bangkok, Thailand for 10th-12th grade and attended an international school; before that, attended public school in San Jose, California. Basically, I guess they viewed me as an American with international exposure/experience.

[] State or Country: California
[] School Type/Competitiveness: Private
[] Ethnicity: American

The whole international thing - not only living and doing community service abroad, but also attending international conferences and such

General Comments:

Glad I got in.

Congrats to those of you who were accepted! The acceptance rate plunged from 31.9% last year to 23.4% this year, so it was much rougher going than in the past. Housing is getting pretty tight, so I suppose they’re using the Waitlist even more than they have in previous years.

say waht??!

@Maruhan, lol. That might be in line with previous years. For whatever reason, the yield is probs a bit higher for male students than it is for female students.

thanks esquiar!
the information is very helpful.

@minz
Sorry, not at Chico. I’m from the southern Bay Area.

esquiar: Thanks!!
Anjoola: Yeah I figured, I bet the Bay is the northernmost place in CA that most people know. Anything beyond that is unknown territory (except for Sac xD).

my friend is from chico
if that helps at all :p

Waitlisted. I’ll post stats later on.

Does anyone know the number of waitlisted applicants?

The letter clearly says “…Should you make plans to attend another college, please notify us so that we may consider candidates on our alternate list…”

I would assume that they are expecting to go the wait list as very few colleges generally make it this specific.

Also, did they personalize the letters a little bit?

My stats:
Waitlisted

[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have things that show my strong interest in math/engineering, plus I’m pretty well rounded.
[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Better than a rejection[/ul]
[/li]

Nah, the letter wasn’t personalized. I’m going to call them/email them later though.

:(
u seem like a good candidate though

and looking at the previous admission, I don’t think they utilize the waitlist that much unfortunately. Last year, none from waitlist got in, and the year before I think 2 from the waitlist was accepted

[] Essays: Really good apparently, the note on my letter related directly to one of my essay topics.
[] Teacher Recs: Both were wonderful.
[] Counselor Rec: Average.
[] Hook (if any): Female. Music and other creative things. Sports. I don’t know entirely, looking at the bare numbers I’m not anything special (my scores are all on the lower end), but I guess the essays and recs and activities must count for a lot. =D
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New Hampshire
[] School Type/Competitiveness: Small public high school, top notch kids.
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments: I’ve been getting more and more nervous for the past week, and I psyched myself out a lot thinking that I was too average a candidate. Obviously not by their standards. Even if I can’t go here for financial reasons, I feel pretty damn special right now.

Waitlisted. ugh.

Accepted. Did not get PSP interview though. Oh well. Do you know if there are any other scholarship (merit) that might come with fin aid in a week? Also, is everyone who got in getting a little hand written note? It made me happy.
