If you applied to Huntsman and want to get to know the other applicants - you can do it here. Post anything you want us to know about yourself.

Also - it would be great if we could get some veterans from last year’s ED round to tell us when Penn sends out the tape or the letter about the tape…is it end of November? (lol barely just sent out the app and as you can see im already a lil too anxious)

That would be me... I wrote a pretty poor Hunstman essay, but my p. 217 essay / app show I have a passion for foreign language. I have a really bad verbal score (620 blech, 800 math, 740 french), erm let's see. I'm applying for French (does anyone know if French is super competitive? I heard Chinese.. duh.. is the most competitive language within Hunstman). I was thinking about Chinese, (im an american-born taiwanese.. so i can only speak 'chinglish') but I figured if it was competitive / im not good at it.. why bother? I can French a lot better (I think? lol). In 7th grade, I failed the first couple quizzes, but then a kid my age moved next door who was French and I learned the language that way (now were best friends.. thats wat i wrote about in my 217 essay). I skipped French 3a and got a 5 on the AP exam.. crazy if you ask me considering it was my worst subject in middle school. What language did you apply for / what did you write about for your Hunstman essay? AND.. do we get tapes before they decide?

Hi...I didn't apply for Huntsman, but I just wanted to say, dw51688 that ^ that's totally cool. I also have a passion for foreign languages, but I applied to the College. I was considering Huntsman, but since my dream is to learn many languages rather than just focus on one, I decided to go with the College. And I only got a 700 on the SAT French TT I'm taking AP French this year. Sadly, if I were to take SAT Thai (if it was offered) I'd do worse on that than on the French! Ahh...I've lost my roots... >_< lol

oo a good friend of mine is thai.. sawadikaa (erf.. did i tell you i was really bad at romanizing languages too?)..

i LOVE foreign languages / learning about foreign cultures. since i did AP french last year.. i also took spanish ii.. i wanted to take spanish iv this year but i couldnt fit it into my schedule (although im regretting taking ap physics !!). im trying to study it on the side..

i really like japanese and korean.. and id like to take some courses but for now.. i havent been able to learn that much (i can read it out loud.. i just dont understand what im saying.. lol)..

haha, i was the same way last year! i taught myself the japanese alphabet (only hiragana and katakana - kanji is too much for me lol) so i could read it aloud but i didnt understand most of what i was saying! i understood some of it only because i watch a lot of anime haha. this year, though, i'm taking japanese at a community college near my high school - we've started learning kanji!

i totally understand your feelings - i also LOVE foreign languages and learning about foreign cultures. i think it's also since i'm an asian who grew up in the US, i've been raised in basically two cultures. i want to learn korean too - you'd think that since one of my best friends is korean and we've been friends for years, i'd know something by now! but i only know how to say hi, mom, and dad haha.

i would take spanish except...i had a mean spanish teacher in 4th grade and i've been traumatized ever since lol. so now i'm afraid to take any spanish classes in my school district - i'm waiting till i get to college (but i couldn't wait to take japanese! lol)

ap physics...yea...that was the biggest mistake of my life! lol. i don't mean to discourage you, but i got a B in it first semester, then a C. but that's just me. i'm not a math/sci person, so i'm still wondering why i ever wasted my time with physics >__<

i don't know if I like languages, as much as I recognize how important they are to know. They're so effective for communicating between different people. I know English, Russian, and French fluently and it's helped in all sorts of things. My goal is to learn Chinese and Spanish and be a polyglot

lol, skierdude, i just saw your post in the other thread about how you wanna major in statistics and finance. as i've mentioned in other posts, math is not my forte lol i get by somehow...

hi sorry i didnt post this earlier. im applyin for french as well...although i was hesitating a lil bit between french and spanish but i chose french.

anyone know about the tapes...when do we find out about 'em?

desolee, je ne te comprends pas, dw51688...pourquoi ecris-tu comme ca? tu en fais expres? tu ecris comme tu parles? les "j'voulais" et "t'as fini"?

at the very least, dw, we got to be in the same college house. I gots to learn me sum of this french stuff. And after that, i'll tackle english...

lol sorry.. im used to talking with frenchies on MSN and its just faster to type using their abbreviations.. its just like our AIM / online talk..
