Maybe a bit off-topic, but would you guys pick Huntsman over Harvard? If you had to choose between a Harvard Econ Major and a Huntsman degree what do you think is more favorable in terms of job opportunities/prestige?

Also, do Huntsman scholars get better job offers than "straight" Whartonites?

Today, I received a notice from my high school that Huntsman wants my school to administrate a foreign language (Chinese) test for me scheduled for next two days. My school said Huntsman sent sealed paper for me. Anyone else has the same situation? Looks Huntsman selection process is still going on....

I got it for Japanese also. Good luck~

Sorry for posting twice in a row, but can we expect that, if we are asked to take the language test, that we have a good chance in being accepted into the program? Is there anyone on this forum who took the test and was not accepted to the Huntsman Program?

if we do not get contacted about taking this proficiency test in the next few days, are we pretty much rejected from huntsman?

Do they send these proficiency tests to internationals, as well?

Hi everyone, Im an international junior student from Mexico... I'll be applying next year ED to the Huntsman Program. My target language may be spanish since it is my native one. However, I also know french, but not enough to get a 5 on the AP test. Considering I already got a 5 on AP Spanish... which target language do you think is better to choose. If I choose French, but then it results Im not goodenough, may I then change to Spanish?

I took the test on thirsday and it went well for me. The test was similiar as SAT 2 plus oral question answers.

Huntsman website says these language tests only sent to "qualified applicants". I hope if these tests are ok then basically we could get in.

"The Huntsman Program has developed its own language tests for Arabic, Hindi and Russian. Arrangements are made for qualified applicants to take these tests.

Tape-mediated oral proficiency tests are also required and will be sent to qualified applicants."

TheDesiBoi, my daughter got in at ED WITHOUT a language test (no SAT 2 in that language). She is an international student, but her target language is not her mother tongue.

I just got the email about having to take the test today...does the test involve reading/writing as well, or is it strictly oral?

The test is reading, writing, and oral. Oral is 15 minutes, and I think the other two parts are 2 hours together. As AliceX2006 said, it's basically SAT with speaking. It's not too difficult (I didn't think it was anyway), so I wouldn't stress about it too much. Good luck and I hope we both get in for Huntsman 2010~ What's your target language by the way?

If we didnt get any notice of this, does that basically mean we're screwed of chances? I live in a small town and I doubt anybody around has come out of Penn AND speaks JApanese to test me. But Im not too sure..... Do they ALWAYS test you? Or is it variable? Argh!!!!

As the Huntsman website says "Tape-mediated oral proficiency tests are also required and will be sent to qualified applicants." So, if you don't hear about this, then I'm not too sure of your chances.

Also, your counselor will give you the test. Huntsman sends the test materials to your counselor. They don't need to be able to speak Japanese to give it, you just need to be able to speak it to take it. Your counselor will just be in the room with you when you take the test.

trunks87: My target language is Chinese.

Does anyone know if the reading/writing parts are in traditional characters, simplified characters, pinyin, or some combo of the three..?

Ya, is the Japanese test in kanji w/ hiragana or kangi w/o hiragana?

And what kind of things are you supposed to say on the oral proficiency exam? Do they ask you to describe a story or event, or are you supposed to answer questions?

anyone receive the test for spanish?

hmm, so i def didnt get a french proficiency test. does anyone know chances of getting into your backup if you dont get into huntsman?

Okay guys, I think I unraveled the mystery. It seems that the common languages usualyl don't get an oral proficiency test. I think we can relax.

rachmaninoff, can u tell me the reasoning of your statement? you might be right but i couldnt think of why they dont give out oral test to popular languages.

I didn't get the special tape test =( but i got a 790 only my SAT 2. Will that be the reason why they don't need the tape test from me?
