*Official* In-State Decision Thread

Testify, I sorta understand how you feel. UNC was the only college with bad news for me as well. I too, was exasperated by the whole admissions process, especially when they started calling people right before the deadline.

What hurts me so much is the fact that they deferred me. I honestly would rather be in your shoes so I don’t have to wait. But instead, they couldn’t just give me an answer after I submitted the application in September. I really felt insulted by that, as though they’re just playing with me or something. And now, they expect me to wait another 2 months for their decision as well? As though they’re the only school? UNC is worthy of waiting 7 months for? That’s a highly entitled attitude. I used to really like the idea of going to UNC, but after the way this whole process is going, NC State sounds like a much better option.

Congradulations to everyone who got accepted though. I hope you have a wonderful time there. Come visit Raleigh sometimes :D

I think I can understand how Testify feels. He was rejected from his 1st choice school and he was upset about it. However, the ones that got in do not feel his sadness and anger, so they really cannot say anything about it because they have never experienced it (or should i say most of them)

And the ones that got in that were talking back at him are making his matters worse. Just sayin’.

**Decision: ACCEPTED! (SHA BANG) **

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Dreams come true.

As a parent, I applaud eadad’s post as it echoes my sentiments exactly. My son was one of the students lucky enough to be accepted to UNC from out of state. He has loved the school since he was in grade school and if he had been rejected he would have been devastated. I feel for each and every student who didn’t get in (or worse yet, is still waiting to hear). I know it sounds cliche, but it’s definitely true - those who are disappointed will surely hear good news from another great school. So many times we’ve heard stories of kids who end up at their second or third choice school and they can’t ever imagine they would have been happier anywhere else. I wish you all the best of luck, and try your best not to take the rejection personally - the adcoms do the best they can but it’s an imperfect process.

Testify,
I do not know your exact stats, but it seems fairly obvious that you were well qualified enough for you to feel so much frustration at a rejection. While I do sympathize with you (you mentioned an illness), I would also like to point out that it isn’t sportsman-like to call UNC “■■■■■■■■” on a public forum. Think about what that message conveys to people who did get accepted. That said, I wish you the best in your college admissions process.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Already paid my deposit! So excited :)

Again, I will say this:

I implore you to think about it this way - the admissions officers know best which students will succeed at Carolina, both academically and socially. You yourself have already latched onto the only reason why they would reject a student who is so clearly qualified - you are not a good FIT. Perhaps UNC has done you a favor by guiding you away from a place where you would not be the happiest. I know you don’t realize this yet - UNC is your dream and you don’t see how in the world you couldn’t have been happy there - but I encourage you to explore the possibility.

Regardless, there is no need to take your frustration out on either the university or its admissions officers. Furthermore, the university has every right to withhold from you the reasons why you were not admitted.

NC State University is a great school. Take pride in attending such a great university - a school for which you are a better fit and at which you will clearly have more success than you would have had at Carolina.
