Official JAN BIOLOGY Thread

i was talking to you tbonist4

i dont think we can discuss questions yet N4O5WN

To clarify for you guys about phototropism:

Positive phototropism is when a plant tends toward light by dividing more on the "dark side." By increasing cell division on the side without light, the tip of the plant (the coleoptile) bends toward the light.

Negative phototropism would be the opposite; growth away from light by increasing the amount of cell division on the "light side" of the plant so that it will bend away from light. I cannot think of any natural examples of negative phototropism, though.

So how many question wrong do you guys think will be an 800? 3 or 4, or is it even worst than that? I'm feeling that the test besides the matching was alright, do you think it'll be a harsh curve?

There was a question on bird characteristics (one of those "except" questions). Well, I didn't pick teeth...

Birds have teeth?

iite i have some questions
1. if you took ecology what was the answer to the one that had the log, termites, salamadar, clovers etc and the question was what will happen to the oxygen if the tank was sealed

pedigree with the one shaded square...which must have the allele of the disease?

the mendel question about the father of genetics

1.I took M so I don't know which question you're talking about(but i think maybe i should have taken E.. oh well)
2.i think i put 1 and 5.. although i dont remember the question
3.i put c.. although i dont remember what c was..
thats so weird i dont remember anything

oh by the way, my answers are probably wrong...
so you shouldnt rely on my answers.. wait till someone else replies

can we discuss questions or not

i got c for the mendel one 2
but for the pedigree one i put 6 only cuz it was 1 and 5 only and if that was so then 12 had to have the allele 2
and i u can discuss answers
other ppl r in other threads so y not here

i put 6 only as well for the pedigree...not sure about it

what was the mendel question? i don't remember what i put for that.

for M-takers, do you remember what you put for the first M-specific question? i think the answers were like: nucleic acid, cellulose molecule, lipids, carbs, and something else.

also for ecology
wat was the answer to the one that said human get most of their food from which biome...

the mendel one was like
why was he called the father of genetics

ughhh i guess i got the pedigree one wrong..
im so STUPID

well i didnt take ecology
but i think the answer would be either marine or tropical rain forest

nice
they didnt have marine so i put rain forest
and for those who didnt take ecology i guess i could post a question
it was like a person put grass, clovers, termites, ants, and salamanders in a tank
what would happen to oxygen levels of the tank if the tank was tightly sealed so no air would come in?

the answer ws between the oxygen would stay the same for the next 24 hours
or the oxygen would slightly decrease in the next 24 hours

i put slightly decrease cuz there were more animal species than plant species

can we discuss questions?

yes
theres like 100 other threads discussing sat

I got so many wrong..

-birds don't have teeth
-reptiles' waste is uric acid (this was in Barron's too!!!)
-nucleus not well-defined in cyanobacteria (i can't believe i thougth cyano*bacteria* was an algae...)
-i didn't put phototaxis for anything
...

what do you predict is the max # wrong that will still get 800

1: what was the answer to the biome food production one?
2: what was up with that weird reptile question and what it excretes when its dehydrated?
3: for the pedigree, i said only 5 (maybe it was 6), but either way, i said only one of the individuals had to have had the allele.
4: who remembers the question about this guy who learned his father developed some disease and how his mothers family did not have any history of it, and the guy's chances of getting it?
5: Do birds have teeth?
6: I think there was some question about the evolution of land plants and some of the answer choices were cuticle and sexual reproduction. I think i put down sex. anyone else?

it was about huntington's disease, which is autosomal dominant

BIRDS DO NOT HAVE TEETH

I think the answer was the cuticle (it didn't actually use the word...it something like a wax-like layer or something)

I might be mistaken, but isn't cyanobacteria another name for blue-green algae? That sort of tripped me up when I was doing that question.
