*OFFICIAL* January 28, 2006 SAT Thread

To start off, I really have no idea how many forums there were this time and what not, but I’ve heard of two different forms so far based on what I’ve heard. My test had the following sections

Essay: Discoveries, single focus or something along those lines.
Math: Grid Ins
Writing: The big one
Verbal:
Verbal: This was the verbal with two pairs of short passages. The first pair was normal but the second pair was like a compare/contrast type. Also this one had 25 question in 25 min. It was kinda weird so based on past experience, I would say this was experimental. Don’t take my word for it though, because you never know what collegeboard has up their sleeve.
Math: Normal
Verbal: I think the space one; extraterrestrials etc. Some kind of paradox theory by this nobel laureate guy.
Math: Short one
Verbal: The one with the Native American dude talking about the porcupine woman story.
Writing: The short one

Some thoughts:
I took the SAT this time to do well on my verbal so I just pretty much slept (literally) during the writing and math, with the exception of the first math section (Grid in) and the writing sections. I was so tired anyway. I did the essay. Had a lot of fun with that…lol. NOTE: Do not ever do this, unless you are trying to improve the score of only one section.

The answer for the math grid-ins were as follow in order;
12
2
123
2035
5
89
6.5
5/9* not totally positive about this one, someone should verify
700
120

And for the multiple choice in that section, there were possibly two questions worth mentioning. The one with the symbols and you had to choose which of the three things worked. The answer was
I and II

Idk the rest. Sorry. I didn’t pay too much attention to math sections this time around.

As for the sentence completions, the vocab level was not super hard, but it was one step below it. Some hard sentence completion answers are as follows in no particular order.

Acrid
Predilection…atypical
Picayune
Reticent
Tout…efficacious
Insightful....self-critical
Insatiable
Harrowing
Diatribes
Spare
Ornate
Progenitor
Demise…mystery
Disingenuous

That’s about it. I think the one question in critical reading that I got wrong was the one that asked about the way he used euphemisms when stating “difficult”…I totally blanked on what euphemistic meant so I was stuck between the
Exaggerate
Estimate
Understatement

The other choices were preconception and something else. Anyhow, the answer was understatement.
I put estimate…stupid me.

All right well that is all I can remember for now. If you people can think of more that is fresh in your head please do continue this thread. Peace.

i confirm on the math grid ins...they're all right

BTW, it was 5/9 because there were 3x3 choices in all, and 5 ways you can choose the multiples of 5 (3 times one of the three numbers and 6x10 and 4x10)

and yes, the answer was underestimate

another math question worth mentioning was the one about the consecutive nights at the hotel..the answer to that was A which was 3.

All the other math questions should've been very easy so no point discussing them

and note that the gridin with the 123 could've been anything under 125.

well 120<x<125

but anyway, um any critical reading question you rmbr sixers? the ones that were partically worth mentioning. Also what do you think about my experimental section theory.

yes, oops sorry about that

omfg, i added right for the area question, and then i changed it because i added wrong and i thought that was right. i got 7.5 instead of 6.5, omfggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i almost screwed up on it too, i first put 6.125 but then i realized i forgot one of the sides of 1/4, so i put in 13/2

"That’s about it. I think the one question in critical reading that I got wrong was the one that asked about the way he used euphemisms when stating “difficult”…I totally blanked on what euphemistic meant so I was stuck between the
Exaggerate
Estimate
Understatement"

--> understatement, I believe.

What were the math grid-in with 2 being right and the "disingenuous" completion?

the inverse proportion had 2 as the correct answer

i don't think harrowing was one of the answerrs

was it really "9" for the number of sides in the plygon? b/c i FREAKING HAD THAT. but then i changed my answer to 6. and o im so ****ed. bleh.,

180(n-2)/n was the formula to use, so 9 is correct

Oh right I got the inverse proportions one and I'm not sure I remembe rharrowing either.

Does anyone remember a Math question that looked like this: "If h+k = 7 and 7 - h / ?? = ?? (don't remember)", then hk = ... (answer choices were -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, I think)... ?

wildsky, i put one for that, you get h/h=1

i put 1 because the numerator and denom. ended up canceling out.

i thought it was (7-k)/h=, and the answer was 1
