OFFICIAL JANUARY SAT 2 Lit DIscussion

was anyone else absurdly confused by the poem on the girl who goes to the country? I don't know why, maybe jsut because it was near the end and I was starting to freak out about time (this exam took me much longer than the practice tests i've taken), but I really struggled with that piece.

yeah, i struggled with that one a bit as well. In fact, the last 3 in a general were a much of a struggle; time was definitely an issue.

My feelings exactly, babaloo. I think the poem about the country unnerved me a lot, mainly because I was confused as to how she felt about the man and the countryside.

What was the one part of a pastoral not in the poem? I forgot what I put.

my compiliation so far:

"this man" to emphasize humanity and something of douglass.
Talk about how freedom embodied in people or something
political mumbo jumbo
douglass uses poem to inspire audience
divine intervention
they-islands
"hollows" "caves" and "glens"? I put necessities for humans for love
question of the last poem?i put changeable
nightingale's song represents emotional stirring
lady tries to assert her own authority
male dominance or something like that
Except question- the medicines were working for her
"dear" was the viewpoint of the speaker or poet
Except question: the countryside was superior

*i thought it was a kinda easy test

"To a Young Lady" is here: http://www.heydays.ws/?section=4
(This is the coronation to country poem with the lady and the guy. You have to scroll down a bit tho).

I put "Boorish" something for describing the country suitor.

I also put that country life was dull in comparison to city life as another answer.

ALSO, most importantly, I remember this question: "What kind of thing is the first stanza?"
- Choices were extended simile/metaphor, periodic sentence, and some other stuff. I think i put the extended thing after seeing the "As", but thats a really lame reason for choosing that.

Another question was that the speaker and the lady are similar for all reasons EXCEPT:" Choices that follow include how theyre both roused from refelction and stuff. I forgot which one I chose, but i felt it was kinda obvious.

Another question was about who used the term "dear" in first stanza. I put... the speaker/poet/narrator. Not sure about this one.

Anybody have a guess as to the curve of the test?

Anybody have a guess as to the curve of the test? (Chillaxin)
im not sure about the curve it soudns really unpredictable, however, i doubt it will be a huge curve
but i got most of the same answers as u guys i guess thats good, how do u guys remember exactly wut u put and the questions?
anyways wut do u guys ocnsider a good score

Heh I need an 800 on this, which is basically as to why I'm curious about the curve. Does anyone know the curve from last month and how that test compared in difficulty to this one?

why do you need an 800, chillaxin?

ikwame, I think anything 700+ is a really good score, which is probably a high standard for the world at large and a low standard for a CCer. I'm hoping to eek out a 700 myself, but I don't know how likely it is. I'm kind of a lit nerd, but this kind of test tends to get me confused!

This is from my Kaplan review book:

800 790
800 790
800 780
800 780
800 780
800 770
800 760

The first 800 being a perfect raw score.

A 700+ can get you into any college.

two weeks until scores.
i'm a little nervous...

I don't mean to be mean but that is just absurd. Simply having a score above 700 will most definitely NOT get you into any college in the top tier.

True. You need 750+ to get into the Ivies.

Well, no. My point is that a score will not make your college app. You need much more than just a perfect score on the SATII Lit to get into ANY college.

scores in two days!

Totally can't wait for scores.

I felt that we had the exact amount of time we needed. I didn't leave any blank. I'm hoping for an 800 and can't think of any I missed, though there are always a few. The toughest question for me came on the section about Hugh and his instruments. What WAS the point of including that bit about steamflies? Was it just to show Hugh's prolonged neglect or was it a reference to his feeling of trappedness? I put neglect...

Anyway, all in all a VERY predictable test. I mean, a Shakespearean sonnet, a Romantic poem, a medieval poem, and, of course, The Yellow Wallpaper.

What do you guys think of the Kaplan Literature Prep book with eight practice tests? Is it similar to the real thing, for those of you who used it? I was reading the comments and apparently the Yellow Wallpaper was on it, which was also used in the Kaplan book. Does this mean it's very similar?

i didnt prep at all. the only thing i knew going into the test was that it had 60 multiple choice questions.

this test is like impossible to prep for...

and the january lit was harder than november and december ones i think

the december one was really easy but it had a harsh curve x_x
