I'm worried about the timing more than anything else. 60 math questions in 60 minutes? Apparently it's like that on the SAT II Math IIC and my brother and his friend said it was impossible for them. Anyone have a bad experience with the fast pace? How long does the ACT take total?

I'm taking it Saturday, too. First time, no prep. I really just wanna try it out. Still looking for 32+.

Also: I can't believe I can't use my TI-89! :(

^ you really wont need it. I think the math is easy. I got a 31 on the math part....

i got a 35 on math with a Ti 83 plus. Much easier than the SAT iis

it's curved but for what it's worth, in april my scores were

english 36 --- missed 0
math 34 --- missed 2
reading 33 --- missed 3
science 29 --- missed 6

not really much of a curve if you ask me

I scored a 29 on the April test. This time, I think a 31 should be in my grasp. Anything higher than that, and I would be thrilled.

My April math score was a 27. I've spent the time between tests reading 6 different Alg/Geo/Trig books from start to finish, spending much extra time on topics I was even slightly unsure about. I'm positive i'll get at least a 31 on the Math this time. (Reason for that is allowing for 'stupid' mistakes i'm sure i'll end up making on topics I know by heart)

On top of that, I think most agree that April's science section was obscenely harder than usual (though I suppose the curve would compensate for that). I got a terrible 24 on it, so i've got a lot to improve on there.

ok this might sound stupid, but i keep reading things about experimental sections on the june test and im tkaing it tomorow and i want to know what does everyone mean by experimental. i dont get understand what everyone means by that.

ziggytheman -

Don't worry about not able to bring in a sophisticated calculator into the exam room. I did my ACT with a scientific calculator (TI-34II), and I still got 36 on it :P.

Graphing calculators might make a few questions a bit easier, but they are absolutely not needed, AT ALL!

I took a practice and got

31 English (.....800W)
32 SCience(...)
35 MAth(no surprise)
33 reading(satisfied)

How the hell do you get a 36 english...there are so many BS Questions???????????????

Kids! Every version of the test has a different conversion table. So the number of questions correct for a certain score is different for every test.

excel: The various real conversion tables I have show Reading scale scores of 16 through 19 for a raw score of 20. How old is your practice test that says 22-23?

iljets10: The various real conversion tables I have show scale scores of 33 through 35 for missing 2 on Math.

YES there is a tryout section in June. It is an extra fifth section after the four regular tests. It's shorter than the other sections--30 questions max. Yes, they tell you it's experimental. I think everyone gets it except those who are taking Writing. I don't think you do the tryout section if you take writing because of the additional time required.

gustav--It means they give you a little extra test at the end that isn't scored. It's to try out new questions that might be used on future tests.

my mistake :)

how are the curves made? do they add points to the composite?

excel:

Try [thread=181667]this thread about the so-called curve[/thread]. The composite is just the average of the four subject test scale scores.

Okay...so the experimental questions are not like that of SATs', which are concealed and mixed among the regular questions (not to mention that they don't even tell you if that's an experiment questioni -- which could lead to a large amount of time and effort spent on questions that aren't even scored) ?

That's good to know; I'm taking the writing section, which means that I won't have to worry about an experimental, even though they tell you it's experimental.

Sweet.

Yes, I wasn't 100% sure before, but I am now: If you take Writing, you will NOT get a tryout section.

I asked about this to ACT and they said that only select testing centers will have this.

Good luck to everyone.

Mrs. Ferguson do you have any last minute advice/tips for us? :)

I do. Chill out, relax, watch some TV, and for the love of God, stay away from this forum until after the test.

what? why can't you use a TI-89 calculator? I think mine is TI-83...I hope it is!

The TI-89 does algebra for you; that's the reason why it's banned.
