Official June 2012 ACT thread!

Exactly. 10char

So I didnt study but like I basically did 30 in each section today at barnes and nobles
I missed 1 on the Math, like 5 on the English (Big disappointment), 3 on Science (What the hell is this section?), and 0 on Reading.

I want a 33ish because well one of my friends got that and its a pretty good score. Please help

I am doing it now, but it seems as though it takes up a lot of time?

FullMetal, usually 2 out of 10 questions ask for main idea/purpose. Those questions should be answered after all the “detail” questions are answered. You’d be surprised at how well you pick up on the main idea through searching for specific answers.

Golden Monkey, just look for keywords in the question (names, places, ideas, etc.) and, as you see them appear in the passage, read the context of that keyword and make a decision. The questions are VERY VERY straightforward. They really don’t pull any punches…

Well I noticed u cant use the same approach for the reading and writing like u can on the SAT. I would suggest reading it if ur really nervous. I probably wont since its time consuming. Just read around and you will be fine I suppose.

I thought twice as many a as b was 2A = B???

@ChangeForSmile English is first, then Math, then you get a short break, then reading, then science, and finally writing.

Anyone here know encounter any unsual formulas on the math portion?

Um the law of sine and cosine maybe?

You should probably know the side lengths for 30 60 90 and 45 45 90 triangles. I actually forgot them, so thanks for reminding me :)

@onuho123 no that would mean A half as big as B. If A is 2x bigger than B, then that means A=2B

Edit: @Datboyjj don’t they usually give you those formulas if you need it? The few law of sine problems I’ve seen have had the formula written as a sidenote to the problem. I’ve never seen a law of cosines, hope that stays that way since I don’t know what it is.

Oooh. That makes sense… Thanks!
I’m really nervous for tomorrow; I’ve never taken it before, but I really need a 34. The worst sections for me are the reading and science. :/

I hate reading as well. I fell ridiculously rushed and it always makes me panic. I’m extremely nervous about English too. I’ve gotten a 27-29 on every practice test for English, but on the real thing I’ve gotten a 24 and 23 on English. I really can’t afford to get a 24 if I want to get a 30 overall.

For the reading passages on the ACT at home my mind goes wandering off but when I’m at school, doing it for real I am completely focused and mentally prepared. On the SAT reading for example I did like 40 points better than the ones I did at home. Same with ever section.

Same here. But I’m also worried about whether or not I’ll have enough energy to do my best throughout the whole test. And the science reasoning part really kills my average… Sigh. This is so stressful. If only I could just make at least a 34/35… I have no idea how the SAT is like either and I have to take that as well during my junior year…

Well idk if they are going to give us the formulas so I just gave a few that come around FutureWolverine.

I want a 33 but I doubt I will get it.

They don’t give formulae but if the question requires you to use the equation for volume for a cone or a shpehere or somthing, it gives it you.

I’m pumping myself up for this tonight, hoping that it will make me do better. It’d be nice if I had some adderall to take before I leave for the test tomorrow morning, lol. Or that pill from limitless, that would be nice.

Lol the pill from limitless

Haha, I totally understand! I was considering red bull or monster during the test or before, but I dont think I’d want to crash in the middle of the exam
