****OFFICIAL JUNE 2014 SAT MATH II THREAD****

@Poisonivy20 I would definitely retake a 740. I used Dr. Chungs. Dr. Chungs is waaaay harder and waaaay more helpful than Barrons. I would highly recommend it.

@poisonivy20 check with the school to see if they allow score choice. If they don’t allow it then they’ll see all the scores. Also, if you don’t like WH, then don’t retake it unless you’re really confident about improving. I suggest just retaking math 2, and then you’ll be done with subject tests.

@AngEverlasting the harsh reality is that an 800 in math 2 isn’t as impressive as 800s on other subject tests.

@sonofgod908‌ Would you recommend just Dr. Chungs or both books? If I get D.C, would Barrons be useless?

is it worth getting McGraw’s too at all?

my tip is DON’T GET BARRON’S. Even though I got barron’s and still managed to do well, it didn’t correlate with the actual test whatsoever. Thankfully I did a blue book practice test and my precalc class correlated well with the test’s content.

I recommend getting Barron’s. You don’t want to get easy ones such as McGraw Hill and Kaplan because that will make you feel like you are ready if you get an 800 on those…

on the other hand, a 720 or so in Barrons can prepare you for a solid 800 on the actual test.

Personally, Barron’s is enough… Chungs isn’t necessary unless you need a lot of help.

I mean you can get barron’s as long as you’re not pressed for time. Cramming with barron’s is a big no-no.

I used Barron’s but it was 7th edition and didn’t find all too helpful. Is this because it isn’t one of the newer versions that includes matrices and other information (which i feel like didn’t show up on the test)?

Got a 680, meh. But I got a 750 in November so I should be fine. I took Barron’s, but all that did was freak me out over conic sections. And it has been a year since precalc, which is also problematic. Is 750 a good score for an economics major (in particular for Berkeley and Uchicago?)

Got a 770. Shooting for Dartmouth ED. I only focused on chemistry and got 800 on that, but isn’t 770 75th percentile? Should I take Math II again?

@PoinsonIvy20 depends on the school. Some schools use score choice which allows you to choose which scores you send, and some schools (Yale is the one that comes to mind) want every single score (i.e., if you submit 1 SAT II, you must submit all SAT IIs you’ve ever taken. Same deal for SAT I and ACT)

barron’s just went over too much imo. @kimmikim that score is great, no need to retake
Also if the school doesn’t require sat 2s, then usually you can score choice but it’s always good to check with the school

Honestly Barron’s was hard but in this test’s case it only helped with timing.

I wouldn’t say Barron’s gave me that big of a push (atleast for me). For me, the highest I gotten was like a 720, and on the actual thing I got a 760, not a 800, but again that’s just me.

800 :)

@krpoltax‌ Just buy Dr. Chungs. Thats all u need for an 800. It has 14 practice tests. More than enough.

No matter which book you are using, I highly suggest studying ahead of time. Studying the week of the test won’t help much. Get a prep book and study a little everyday. Do a practice test every other day, and keep track of your progress! I would definitely suggest using a harder prep book. Despite Barron’s being much more difficult than the actual test, over-prep helps. I only got around 700 on Barron’s practice tests, but I learned a lot from them, which prepared me very well.

12, but yeah, Chung is good.

Should I retake with a 760? I’ve looked at the website of some of the schools I find would be a fit for me, but 760 is in the 25th percentile range! I thought I’d do better, since I’m pretty much the best in my math class, but urghhhh… I think I can retake and get an 800 if I get Dr. Chung’s, so should I?
