********Official June 9th 2007 ACT Reading Thread********

Either D or J, it was the bottom one.

I thought it was 1965-1975.

Oh well. i think that's the only one I was really unsure of. Maybe 1 or 2 more.
Ech

I don't think the energy crisis simply went away after a quick tour of the United States.

I think that was a really bad question. However, remember that I've seen two or maybe even three official ACT practice tests where 38-40 is actually a 36, so we might get in luck.

yes i put 1975-1985 since the question asked the period of LEAST advancement in glass innovations for the US. for the question on something like which two planets show early life forms or whatever it was, was it mars and earth?

Mars and Earth.

Yeah, Mars and Earth.

O, and how did you say the guy who wrote the glass passage and the life on other planets felt about their subjects?

I don't remember, do you have the answer choices.

i put optimistic but practical... the rest were like hopeful but frustrated, something but cynical, and i don't remember the others

Yea, I think I put intrigued but cynical...these are all for the life on other planets, btw.

I put optimistic but practical as well. I think the best answer woudl have been optimistic but cynical but that wasnt a choice. I chose practical for 2 resons:
it said practical in the first sentence and practical is a more moderate way of saying critical.

Usually if there are 2 good chioces the more moderate one is correct. For example, the answer is almost never like extreme hatred but it might be like calculated dislike or something. Anyone?

The main reason I put mine was because he didn't seem too awefully optimistic about life on other plants, but he seemed intrigued by the idea that there might be and seemed interested in the ideas and research. I hate those questions :</p>

Yea it really could have been either. Can anyone else say what they put because i really rushed on that passage???

When i wrote critical above i meant to write cynical, sry.

I said optimistic but practical.

The speaker was optimistic and hopeful that there is life beyond Earth. The speaker was also practical, because he based his opinions on scientific evidence, not on beliefs.

i put optimistic because of the way he described the new "evidence" that emerged which disputed old theories. practical because he, though optimistic, acknowledged that some things weren't for sure until further researched.

Yeah that's probably correct.

That's what I said. Anybody remember the other choices though.

i put optimistic but practical. he implied that with advances in space research there is a better chance of finding <traces of=""> real life. he also was practical=realistic: no ET life unles proven otherwise.</traces>

Sorry i dont even remember the questions for the first six , but does anyone remember the answers A-D ( or equivalent) for the first six??
