I figured I would start this thread as a way to differentiate the freshman applicants from the transfers. I turned in my fall 2011 application January 15th, so if the website is right I should be eligible for early priority, but I still need to mail in my transcripts and letter of recommendation.

Did anyone apply for Spring term as a transfer? Did you hear back fairly soon if you applied early priority, or get deffered and then accepted?

Heres are my stats:

School: Santa Monica College
Major: Communication Studies
GPA: 3.85...ish
Put down some pretty good EC's and had a decent personal statement
I've only had two B's in my college career and the rest A's, not counting a stupid "college" class I took in high school, which I received a C+ (better not transfer)

Let's hear from you guys and of course, BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE! :)

I have yet to apply but will do so by February.

My stats:
School: OCC
Major: Communication
GPA: 3.4 (I know, it’s terrible)

I’m still finishing up my personal statement, but I have rocking letters of rec from two professors. I REALLY hope I get accepted, it’s my #1 choice, but with my low gpa, I’m not sure :/

I wouldn’t be too upset about that gpa, it isn’t terrible by any means. I’ve heard of many people who transfered to LMU last year with a 3.4 or below. Even if you have a slightly lower gpa than others, you can still make up for it by taking challenging classes, and having your pre-reqs done. I still need to do one of my pre-reqs for comm in the Spring and won’t have the other done by transfer, but I spoke with an admissions counselor and he said I should be fine if I have taken enough comm classes already and am willing to do the other at LMU.

How many units have you taken? I will have more than 60 by the end of Spring.

It’s good you have some great letters of recommendation, does LMU allow you to send two? With some good Ec’s your application could really stand out among the rest.

Hey! I’m submitting my app sometime this week (i hope). I’m nervous…I have a 3.49 gpa but I’m applying to the psychology major and I’m coming from UT Austin, so I hope that’ll help. I’m nervous though, I really want to go to LMU! I have a 4 page resume and 2 jobs and an internship this semester at a nonprofit organization so…here’s hoping : )

nick773: Did you mail in your transcripts yet? I submitted my app by the jan. 15 deadline but I was only able to mail in the transcripts a few days ago. I was worried that this might have a negative effect on my application.

One last thing…are we required to submit high school transcripts?

@mcuevas- Yes, i mailed in my transcripts for both of the community colleges I attended. I did that a couple weeks ago and they told me they received one and are still waiting on the other. No, you do not have to send in your transcripts immediately. You actually have until sometime in March or maybe even after, so don’t sweat.

If you have less than 30 units from your community college then yes you must submit high school transcripts and I think even test scores (ACT, SAT). Also remember that you need to submit a letter or recommendation as well.

i can’t get them my rec letter/secondary school report form until next week, but I turned my app in by jan 15th, is that okay? Will it affect me?

Also, when do we turn in the midyear report forms?

Thanks nick I’m feeling a little better about my late college transcript submission. I just got off of the phone with LMU Admissions office and they explained that since I have 60 college credits they won’t need my HS transcripts for admission consideration…but they would need it for financial aid purposes.

kmart: call the admissions office and ask about the letter of rec. I can’t see it being a prob since your app was submitted by the jan 15 deadline BUT you should still call or email.

College: OCC/GWC
GPA: 3.4ish
Major: Pol Sci
EC’s: none other than some volunteer work and currently active duty military (have been for 6 years).

mcuevas: yeah that’s a good idea-i emailed them today and if I don’t hear back by Friday, i’ll call them.

Stats:
College: UT Austin
GPA: 3.4917
Major: current: public relations; intended at LMU: Psychology
EC’s: Internship at a nonprofit organization, work at a lawfirm, work at a restaurant, Ukulele lessons, art lessons, volunteer stuff.
ACT (if it matters): 31

Thank you nick
Admissions said that the reason they needed the hs transcript for financial aid reasons was mostly to prove that you had an HS diploma or something equivalent. I know that when you fill out the fafsa application it asks if you graduated from HS.
My little brother for instance dropped out of HS and is now attending community college. When he filled out his fafsa and answered that he did not have an HS diploma, the financial aid office asked him to take the “ability to benefit test,” it was a general math/english test. Once he passed his “ATB” test he was able to qualify for federal aid.

Thank you, this makes sense. I better give my HS a call tomorrow and have them send mine. You know it’s kind of weird, for the last two weeks when I log on to My LMU and go to MyAid, it keeps saying that my FAFSA application is “missing.” I emailed financial aid about this last week and they told me that last Friday they would enter the FAFSA information in the computer. Wonder when my info will appear. Says the deadline is March 2 so I hope it appears soon.

hello, i’m applying for the Fall of 2011, too.
My GPA is horrible, barely a 3.0 because of some circumstances.
However, LMU is my #1 and only choice.
So…I’m giving it a shot anyway because I heard they judge you holistically, unless your a dance major or something .
Major: Psychology
I have like 4 AWESOME letters of rec, is it too many?
IM SURE ALL OF YOU WILL GET IN, YOU GUYS HAVE IMPRESSIVE BACKGROUNDS!
if anything WISH ME LUCK!! >:/
As transfers do we have to submit our HS transcripts?

Hey Kitty, don’t sell yourself short! I’ve heard the same thing about LMU taking all aspects of a person into account during the admission process as well. As far as HS transcripts go, you have to submit yours if you have less than 30 units. I’ve never heard of a limit on letter of recommendations so I would just send all of them. Just make sure they are from a college and not HS. Best of luck to you! And if you don’t get in during the Fall, I have heard of plenty of people getting accepted after a second attempt during the Spring, so don’t give up! :)

@ Kitty, as long as your personal statement or some part in the Common App - you explain why you have that GPA or why you’re kinda concerned about some of the grades you’ve received, I’m sure they’ll take you into consideration. Even places like USC don’t have a minimum GPA, they’ve taken people with as low as a 2.5…of course like aforementioned…you gotta have a helluva an explanation. Plus I like to think LMU really does take a more thorough and holistic view at apps since it carries the whole spiritual context of being a Catholic university.

hey are you guys able to create a PROWL account? like, when i logged onto myLMU and clicked “myAid” it wouldn’t take me there-it said there could be a number of issues-one being i didn’t have an account. so i searched for myaid/prowl on lmu’s website and it took me to prowl and then let me make an account. that’s the norm though, right?

I got access to mylmu from an email that I received sometime last week. I can access “my prowl” but when I click on “my aid” I get directed to an error screen. So as of now I still have not been able to access the “my aid” portal.

hey everyone! im applying to LMU as a transfer (for Fall 2011). im a business administration major. I have 43 credits so far and i am taking 15 credits this semester (spring 2011). my overall gpa is 3.45 and last semester (fall 2010) my gpa was 3.71. i have many questions, i’m hoping you guys can help me out.

1) i think my essays are pretty strong and i have a great teacher recommendation but what are my chances of getting in with my gpa? i know its not very high…

2) im from los angeles, but i now live in new york city (for college). on my common app, i put down my nyc address (i dont live in a dorm, i have my own apt.) as my permanent address because i wanted to get my results sent there. should i have used my LA address instead? will they not consider me a california resident? and does it matter in the application process if i am a california resident?

3) im taking calculus this semester and LMU says “Business applicants must complete a calculus/business calculus course with a grade of “B” or better to be eligible for admission.” Does this mean that I will definitely have to wait for my final calculus grade after the semester ends before finding out if i am accepted or not?

i apologize for the ridiculous amount of questions. i’m just super nervous because i really want to get into LMU. it has always been my dream school. Any information would be extremely helpful. thanks!

1) I don’t know how competitive the business department is, but when I spoke to an academic counselor about communications she told me it was a competitive major, but the avg admitted gpa is only a 3.3, so if it is anything like that then a 3.4 gpa is above average.

2) I also spoke to a counselor about this issue since I live in Iowa now and never was a California resident. She basically just told me that being out-of-state does not have any affect on the selection process.

3) Not sure about this one. I didn’t take two communications pre-reqs, but the counselor said I could just take them at LMU. But those courses never said they needed to be completed for admission, so they might just wait to see the grade.

Hopefully this helps. I wouldn’t sweat it if I were you. Good luck!
