doctordre: I am taking business calc right now for business too and the admissions director called and said just send my grade in when I finish the class and then they’ll send me my letter, so i said i got in but i guess im technically not, but i will be officially in three weeks.

doctordre: I have completed 15 units at a southern california community college with a 4.0 and i have 17 in progress plus 6 more in progress this summer. In high school i had a 3.8 with 10 quarter credits from the University of Washington and credit from the AP stats test.

Hey guys! So those of you that have been admitted-are you attending for sure? I’m still trying to decide, but I think I’m going to! Do you guys know if it’s hard to make friends? I’ve heard that the student body can be sort of…er…snobby…which concerns me a bit.

kmart: i’ve been there a bunch of times and a lot of the people are really nice and friendly. there are some that are snobby but they’re the minority. You should be fine in terms of making friends. Most people get involved in whatever activities are associated with their major, so that would also help you to meet people. You should go there! it is a great school!

In my experience, the students that I have talked to have been very nice and helpful. If I get accepted, one of my worries is definitely making friends. I talked to some transfer students before and they seemed to have made the transfer smoothly. Some even gave me their contact info if I had any questions, which was a nice gesture. Also, a lot of them (like LMU123 pointed out) said that getting involved with activities on campus is a great way of meeting new people. I think that as long as you are kind to others, you will always attract kind friends. : ) Happy Monday, everyone!

LMU123: that makes sense. Are you going to LMU in the fall?

Jaysea: Yeah, I’m one of those shy until I get to know you kind of people, joining clubs and such should help. I think I’m all confused because I currently go to UT Austin and while I don’t like it there, it’s a really good school and I do have some friends. Just cold feet. I’m sure it’ll go away Good luck! I really hope you get in!

kmart: I’ll probably go there. a scholarship would be a nice addition and make my decision a lot easier, but even if i dont get one i’ll probably be there in the fall

So I checked my LMU MyPAW status just now and it says: APPLICATION DENIED
Frankly, I’m kind of surprised. I got into UT Austin, UC Berkeley, and several other schools.

I don’t want to bum anyone out, but I thought I might share my stats for anyone waiting to hear back:

Applying to Film Production
GPA: 3.98 with over 100 quarter units
good extra curriculars

I think my essay is what killed it for me, so if you wrote a strong essay, don’t feel worried. I’m still waiting for NYU and USC, where I had stronger applications. I have to admit this made me pretty sad though. :(

wow, Lord Jim, I’m so sorry to hear about that! this makes me nervous and is certainly discouraging (i know you did not intend for that). There must be a specific reason they denied you since you have excellent statistics. At least you got into some really great schools and you definitely have many options. I, on the other hand, only applied to LMU so this is my only chance to leave my god awful school (pace university). I’m beginning to lose hope but I believe things work out the way they do for a reason. I’m still wishing for the best for myself and all of us transfers. Good luck to you on NYU and USC!

lord jim: WHAT?! LMU denied you but you got into UT and Berkeley??? Well, honestly I think you’ll get into NYU and USC no problem. But if not, you should come to UT That’s where I am now-weather is nice and Austin is pretty chill too.

LMU123: I think that unless I get a scholarship to LMU I’ll probably wait a year and apply to UCLA, USC, and Pepperdine. Is it really hard to get into UCLA as a transfer from out of state? I know it is as a freshman applicant. Maybe coming from UT austin will help? But yeah, unless I get a scholarship I don’t know if I’ll go…I love LA but I’m going to go to law school which is going to be a ton in debt so…undergrad debt isn’t really worth it for me unless it’s UCLA, USC or Pepperdine. I applied to USC but no answer yet…not that I expect to get in, my gpa is like 3.49 =\ ah, well.

This probably isn’t representative of most of LMU’s acceptances. Film production is one of those majors where it can be insanely competitive to get in. I also have to keep open the possibility that I somehow made a mistake on the application that voided me. This is doubtful, but I have to consider it.

Also, Kmart- I believe that for UCLA coming from UT Austin would be an advantage. It seems to me that schools like those who come from out of state because they can add diversity to campus, and they pay the out of state tuition.

lord jim: I’m applying to the film production major as well. I’ll be finishing this semester with about 65 units, though. MyLMU says my app is still under review. When did you apply? (Trying to figure out when they’ll update my page.) but congrats on UT and Berkeley! Those are both amazing universities!

I paid my confirmation deposit today, so i’m going for sure. My acceptance letter said that the deposit must be paid by May 15th. I don’t know if this is specific for me or for the entire transfer class, but maybe everyone will hear before the 15th. It says payments made after May 15th will be accepted, but only on a space available basis. Not trying to sound discouraging here, but the letter said over 1400 students applied while only 350 slots were available. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear! Im really excited to come to LMU. Such an amazing campus.

lord jim: Although the film school is very competitive, I think they may have denied you b/c they thought you chose LMU as a safety school. It also could be the fact that you have over 100 units. LMU only excepts 90 units from accredited four year institutions and 60 from two year colleges. I’ll have 93 after this semester, but I think a few classes won’t transfer.

I think lord jim is right about getting into ucla being out of state in regards to paying out of state tuition as being an advantage in regard to being accepted. I got accepted for their musical theatre program as a transfer thats out of state in Florida, but I would have to pay a lot, so I’m not going, but I think they would like out of state applicants because they can charge out of state tuition. I think being out of state might be an advantage.

Question has anyone recieved financial aid information from LMU yet?
