Official LMU 2011-2012 Transfers Thread

Kmart153,

I applied January 15th and am a psych major as well. I haven’t heard back either.

@LMU oh ok maybe that school is just taking it’s time. What are your stats?

@Kmart

Stats:
College: College of the Canoyns
GPA: 3.91
Major: Psychology
EC’s: President of the psychology honor society, Psi Beta, Secretary of the honor society, Alpha Gamma Sigma, and seceratry of the Future Eduactors Club. Im also a teacher assistant for a psych professor, college ambassador, and have a good amount of volunteer experience.

@LMU oh wow nice! I have a 3.49 gpa from UT Austin (but since UT is a top 30 university I’m hoping that will help me since my gpa is low) and I have a TON of extra curricular activities and community service and job and volunteer experience so…I’m hoping that helps. Plus it seems like psych isn’t super hard to get into and it’s not a super competitive major (from what I gather)

@Kmart, thanks! Your gpa isn’t bad, and I’m sure coming from a UT will definitely help you. Plus, it seems like you have a great deal of extra curricular activities and volunteer experience. I’ve heard that psych is actually one of the most competitive majors at LMU… I’m sure we will both be fine though. I just wish they’d let me know. I can’t stand waiting.

@LMU thanks! Yeah I hope sooo haha. Oh really? I thought, generally, it was pretty easy just because like…you don’t have to be super good at a subject to be good at psych (i.e. business you have to have good math grades, bio you need good science grades). I know that film is insanely hard to get into there though haha. I dunno, I just hope my gpa is high enough…I’m worried but we’ll see I guess!

@Kmart Yeah, I went to an open house at LMU and they said that psychology is one of the most impacted majors.

@LMU is that for freshmen or for transfers? I feel like I don’t see many transfers applying to psych

@kmart It is for both. The people on this thread alone probably don’t give us an accurate representation of all those who applied. It should be easier for transfers compared to freshmen though.

@LMU yeah I emailed them and they told me my app is under review right now and I should have a decision (hopefully) in the next two weeks. I’m hoping that even though it’s an impacted major, the fact that I applied early (jan 28th) they’ll still see my app before a bunch of the others that applied to psych and let me in :stuck_out_tongue: if not, She said I could appeal the decision and ask them to review my app for another major. Is International Relations an impacted major/hard to get in there? I’m just preparing in case haha

@Kmart who did you email?! I emailed a whilllle ago…i think 2 weeks about and I haven’t gotten any reply. I email admissions@lmu.edu … but i applied around the same time as you so im guessing I will hear in the next few week as well…

@kmart, I’m not sure about the international relations major. I don’t think it’s impacted. Don’t worry, I am sure you will hear back within two weeks and be accepted as a psych major! That’s good you emailed them to check on the status of your application. I’m thinking of doing that as well because I applied January 15th and still haven’t heard back.

I was told that LMU didn’t offer an international relations major. It’s one of the reasons I’m skeptical about going to LMU being that IR is one of my interests.

@rmn8757 I emailed admissions@lmu.edu as well…hm it’s odd that they didn’t answer-did you check your spam box? They got back to me within like 2 hours and then I emailed again Friday afternoon around 330 their time and heard back 20 minutes later. Maybe try emailing again?

@LMU That’s what I’m hopiiinnnggg…I’m kinda banking on the fact that I’m coming from UT and I applied early haha I hope that’s good enough. Are the rec letters really important? Because I know mine was awesome (my prof from last semester LOVED me)

@essceejay216 oh really? I thought I had seen it on their offered majors. Hm i just checked and I guess you’re right, I must be confusing it with USC.

Is Pre-Law considered a major there and not just a pre-professional track? If so, is it ‘impacted?’ (I think I applied to it though as a pre-prof. track so…)? Also…what about economics or sociology-are those impacted?

@lmu i wish you the best! I go to COC as well. I was an accepted business major. My decision will be based on financial aid. I got into Pepperdine and I am still waiting for USC.

I was accepted as a transfer student, and I accepted. But I can’t get access to myLMU account, and I haven’t been offered a financial aid award. Is this the case with any other transfers?

@Cali I haven’t been accepted/rejected yet so I dunno, but when did you find out? Did you get a letter in the mail? What were your stats/major and when did you apply? Sorry for all the questions :P

@Kmart I found out via a letter, March 28th. My major is Political Science, and I applied in early March.

@Cali I was accpeted and have yet to receive any financial aid. I called and they said we should be able to see our packages by next tuesday.

@abago4 thanks for the info. Can you log into your myLMU? I can’t.
