Official LMU 2011-2012 Transfers Thread

@Cali oh cool! Congrats! Do you know if political science is impacted/harder to get into? If I get rejected from psych, I want to appeal with a second major and i’m looking at political science

@abago4, thank you! Congratulations on your acceptance! Those are all great schools, so I’m sure you will have a wonderful experience wherever you end up.

@Kmart I’m not sure if Political Science is an impacted major, but I know its popular. Psych and Pol Sci are both in the Bellarmine school (paticular Academic department of LMU), too.

@cali oh cool, that makes sense. It’s weird that you applied in March and have already heard back! I’m just saying that because I applied Jan 28th and haven’t heard yet =\ But I think it’s because I applied to psych and they get a ton of psych apps so I’m still waiting.

@kmart, the wait is killing me too. I applied January 15th and still haven’t heard back. It probably is because they received so many applications from psych majors. Hopefully we both hear back soon!

@LMU yess hopefully!! fingers crossed for both of us! I wish I had a higher gpa so I could feel more comfortable in knowing I’d get in =\ we’ll see…I think I’ll be ok as long as they consider the UT thing haha…that’s the hope I’m hanging onto, at least :stuck_out_tongue: I’m sure you’ll get in! If I don’t, I dunno-should I appeal under the poli sci major, the econ major or the comm studies major? Which would be ‘easiest’ to get into, do you think?

@kmart, I suggest choosing whichever major one you prefer the most. You don’t want to choose the easiest, but one that you will enjoy. Also, take into consideration each of the major’s prereqs and lower division classes. If you are applying as a junior you will want to have most, if not all, of them done. I don’t know which of those majors is the easiest to get into, but I do know communications tends to be impacted.

@LMU yeah that makes sense-well all of them sound good because ultimately I want to go to law school so they don’t really care what you major in. I’m thinking I’ll apply to poli sci, econ or sociology but I still don’t know which yet. I’m gonna look up the prereqs and see if that makes a difference too. I’m applying as a sophomore though so I’ll have time to do some of those classes/lower division classes. I wish they’d let us know about psych already so I’d know if I needed to appeal the decision or not :P

@kmart, yeah take a look at the prereqs. You won’t have to worry about that as much, since you are applying as a sophomore. Hopefully we both hear back soon! I’m sure you will get in an not have to worry about appealing. However, if you do, at least you have a back up plan.

@LMU yeah I don’t know how to find the prepreqs but I think I’ve settled on Political Science as my backup plan. YESS I really hope we hear soooon!!! Thanks  I’m sure you’ll get in too–I just wish we knew already. Or could find out today haha. I keep checking my mailbox and my email obsessively.

hi, everyone! I applied as a (hopeful) junior transfer on march 15 as a film production major and am still waiting on a response, too. I just emailed LMU asking them when they will finish notifying transfers of their acceptance.

question: for those who are applying to LMU, did you all take a college level math class in community college already, or do you plan on taking it when accepted?

thanks! and best of luck to everyone!

UPDATE: I asked LMU when they would start sending out notifications. they first replied with this:

“If you sent it in by the Jan. 15 early priority deadline, you will hear by June 1.”

then, they asked me when I sent my application, so I told them – and they replied again with this:

“Admission has already started to notify transfer students about acceptance. You should be hearing from them soon. Good luck!”

then I asked (because I have so many questions) how they will be notifying us:

“You will receive notification by mail and then you can also check your status online (myPAW) three days after it is mailed.”

eeeee! here’s hoping for this week!

June 1st or May 1st did u mean? I hope its not June 1st!!! haha

wow! if you applied before Jan. 15th you’ll hear before June 1st? Jeez, I hope being from Southern California will help speed up my process, I applied in late Feb…I gotta make decisions with the UC’s schools, but hopefully I hear back before June…then again this all depends on what kind of generous fin.aid package they give me. Good luck to y’all!

P.S. If y’all live in the L.A. area and need to go ask questions or drop something off - you should really just go. they’re casual about it, I dropped off my transcripts and letters of rec. in Feb. and chatted with the Undergrad office people, its such a chill and beautiful school.

rmn8757: yea, they said June 1st. I was shocked, too. but then when they said they are beginning to notify transfers already, that made me feel a bit relieved.

p4pfighter: I’m from southern California, too! I definitely hope it will speed up the process. I wish they would update MyPAW the same day they make a decision. I’m having so much anxiety right now, ha! and I know what you mean about making decisions with the UC schools. LMU shouldn’t take this long since UC schools want students to commit by June 1, right? by chance, did you apply to UCLA?

@jaysea I dunno if being in socal will help speed up the process…I think they typically do it by who applied first. I applied Jan 28th and still haven’t heard back yet, and LMU1221 applied Jan 15th (I think…don’t quote me but I remember this being the case) and hasn’t heard back yet either =\ I think it also depends on the major-like engineering, psychology and film production tend to be their most impacted majors so they have tons of applications. I just hope we hear something soon…I really want to go to Loyola! They told me (last Friday) that I would hopefully have a decision in the next 2 weeks, but that they were behind and had a lot of applications so I dunno. I’m so nervous though!

@Jaysea I took Math at my CC, Statistics.

@Kmart I know you said you might appeal your decision (if rejected), and apply for Pol Sci, and I just wanted to say that I took 4 Pol Sci classes @ my CC; which may or may not have swayed their decision about my acceptance.

@Cali yeah that makes sense-do you mind my asking your gpa? Mine is mediocre, but it’s coming from a top 30 university so I’m hoping that levels it out. I’m applying as a sophomore (like going in as a sophomore) so I don’t know if taking poli sci classes makes a huge difference to them right now but then again I have no idea.

@Kmart my GPA is 3.5 or so, I’ve taken classes at a few CCs so I don’t know how it all adds up percisely, down to the decimal point. And yea, that’s a good look for you that you went to the University of Texas(?); so maybe everything else may be irrelevant, either way i hope you get in:)

@cali yeah mine is a 3.49 Currently I’m a public relations major (…which I LOATHE haha) so I’m hoping to get into psych and if not, hopefully political science. I haven’t taken any poli sci classes but since I’m still a freshman, I think it’ll be okay. Were there any specific pre-reqs or did you just take those classes? Thanks! I’m nervousss I applied late January so significantly earlier than the march deadline…hoping that’ll help too haha but we’ll see  Their office is closed today through sunday though so I’m sure we won’t really hear anything til next week.
