Information session for both the major and the minor… ask anything you like. Happens several more times this semester, so just scroll down for the times.

So how is the semester going for everybody?

How are the GPAs of people applying?

This is my first semester, and I’m talking two general ed courses on top of Econ 251 and MAN is it a pain in the you know what…

At this point I feel I’ll be lucky if I get out with a 3.5… But I think that may be because of all the added pressure from Marshall (the pressure to do well so I get in).

I just wanted to know how other prospective transfers are doing this semester so far.

I remember when my son transferred in last semester as an internal applicant. The Marshall advisor he met with told him that the applicants they see as an internal transfers are either strong in math and science or writing. They like both kinds of applicants. Not sure if this helpful. Also the general accounting class is very hard. Is this the MAN class you referred to above?

I think the poster is only taking 3 classes actually, bbgg. I think the MAN was just used for emphasis. It looks like he’s only taking 2 GEs and Econ 251.

If you show lots of improvement next semester that would help. If you’re a freshman they would understand that the first semester is an adjustment and can affect grades. if you add on personal or family issues that can add extra stress. Work hard next semester.

I managed to get in with a 3.0 this semester; however, i had extenuating circumstances (death in the family so i flew out for a week, and i transferred into alonso’s econ class three weeks late so i had to play catch-up)

I think the personal statement played a big part in my acceptance, i’d advise any future applicants to work hard on it even though they don’t stress it too much on the app

Congratulations, Arctic, and I don’t mean to offend you or cheapen the fact that you accomplished transfer successfully given such a circumstance, but I feel more and more that you can get in as long as you have a 3.0; the average is usually 3.45-3.5, so theoretically for every 3.7-4.0 they take they gotta take a 3.0-3.3 to balance it out… but that’s just my theory.

Well I called them this morning and I asked if I could come in and talk; the lady told me I can come in next week. It’s funny that I have to wait 2 weeks just to ask one simple question: “Do I still have a chance to transfer into Marshall for Fall 2011?” lol

Anyway this semester seems like a good one; spring always is, as it leads into the summer. :)

I learned that its best to just take it slow, day by day, as opposed to thinking\looking too much into\about the future.

And it truly is a relief that by mid-May the finals are over; I transferred from community college and it made me sick to my stomach having to study for finals over Memorial Day Weekend while the entire family is having barbecue on a nice hot day. lol

Basically I went in, and the woman I spoke to was an admissions counselor (GOD I wish I could remember her name; all I remember about her was that she was an incredibly kind and understanding African American woman; if anybody knows who this is please let me know! lol).

She basically told me that she understands my situation: in the fall I had a TV symposium, 2 general ed classes (the 2 you have to take at USC), and Econ 251, the class Marshall requires.

I dropped one GE, got a C in Econ 251, and a C in my other GE class.

She said that I’m fine, it’s okay, its an adjustment, and that if I can do better this semester (SPECIFICALLY if I can do good in econ 252) that they will take that into consideration, and my chances should be fine.

I’m still kinda scared though; fortunately, this semester is going good. I have 2 comm classes as a backup in case I don’t get into Marshall, Econ 252, and Linguistics 110, to replace that GE that I dropped.

Hopefully all will work well… we’ll find out in June!!!
