Official Math2C Scores?

Don't retake a 790. There's no point. 10 pt will not make a difference to colleges. (NOT EVEN MIT!!!!)

Expected: 750-800
Received: 700

I used Barron's, Kaplan, and Princeton Review - and still ended up with 700. How did those who got an 800 prepare for the IIC? I'm just really disappointed right now that using all those prep books didn't help much...

don't retake unless you score 750 or less. Remember, standardized tests contain experimental error, which last time i heard was appx. your base score +/- 30. THE NUMBERS ARE NOT ABSOLUTE.

which means, that a significantly high score is good enough, perfection is not a must.

Colleges realize that someone who got a really high score, but not perfect, is someone who knows the material but might have made a stupid mistake which lowered their scores by such an insignificant fraction. this is the basis for the +/- 30 for experimental error. small deviations do NOT show inefficiency in an area, despite what some may be led to believe.

so while little difference in weight appears for a 790 over a 770 for example, there is a large difference in a 780 over a 720.

are you sure about not retaking a 790? because i know i COULD have gotten an 800 .. and taht 800 just looks so much better on your app than anything in the 700 range :(.

sophomore12, you do not want to waste your time on that...

I know a 12 year old kid who lives near me who got a 790! He's only taken algebra 1! A 12 year old kid scoring just as high as me is plain insane!!!!!!!!!!!

alwaysTHISclose, great username for your question.

if colleges see that you are retaking a 790 SAT II score just for an 800. they will wonder whether your priorities lie in a meaningless number on a piece of paper or whether you truly care about academics and progress. the 790 is sufficient for whatever college you choose to apply to, and your time (in my eye, and in college'e eyes) would be MUCH MUCH better spent in extra-ciriculars, volunteering, or various other endeavors. This shows you're not just about a number, you're about interaction and exploration, which i feel are more important on your application than scores.

scores match you up with the college (everyone who applies to an ivy has high scores), it's the extra cirriculars, the drive, the exploration, that set you apart and differentiate you from the rest.

I got a 790, and personally I think retaking a score this high is absolutely ridiculous!!!!! Be happy, anything above 700 is a solid score, and above 750 is even better. Is it really worth it to spend time studying to get 10 points higher? Plus, anything more than a few wrong and all of that studying becomes pointless. You should only retake if you do significantly worse than you thought you would have, not just to gain 10 points. Put your time to better use.

I can't believe I did so well on 2C yet bombed physics(650)? I can kiss MIT goodbye.

I did bad on Physics as well. 710. though i have time to retake it next year before my application. I definitely know i can do better, if not perfect. I'm taking a modern physics class (relativity and quantum mechanics) at the local college now just for fun.......and am having no problems in the class. So reviewing over classical physics should be relatively (pun intended) easy and a good score attainable.

------> 740 Math IIC [only 740 here, so far..hehe]

and 660 physics [what happened?!?!]

S got a 730; 'prep' consisted of holding a prep book in lap (closed) while watching sportscenter

800...AOPS helps, lol

Expected: 800
Received: 800

Let me just say that calculator programs rock.

Expected: 800
Received: 800

Expected 700 ishy

got: 740

[wish I was smart like all of you 800-CC-ers...lol...]

About the calculator programs... there was just one instance there I could have used them, it was just to get roots of a quadratic, and I decided not to :) I just quickly quickly typed it into my calculator and that was it.

I figured out the average score for everyone. 764. Wow, that's 79th percentile ish!

expected 790
received 760

pff wat do they know.. heh

I retook the test after receiving a 790 previously.. 800 !! =]
