***Official May SAT Biology E/M Discussion***

How'd you do?

Bring up my post

Well first time taking it I omitted 10. I tried both E and M and they were both pretty easy (except the last 5 on M…I forgot ALL about electrophoresis and the way the cuts work. And the last 2 I wasn’t certain on). I only omitted 2 in E (what would happen to the lake after the algal bloom? I know it wouldn’t be primary succession and I think I said the oxygen levels would stay high or something like that but I’m not sure if it was correct. Some of these questions I just had never seen before in AP bio or in the barron’s book. Too bad.

Did you ever see your score on the first one, or did you cancel it?
I put primary succession :l

I was planning on taking E but looked at the first five questions and didnt know them so I decided to take M. There were a lot of questions on the test that I never learned in my AP class or seen in the study books.

what did you guys get for the very last question in M, was it cell wall? i wasnt sure. I said it was a carbohydrate and cellulose.

Your right, it was cell wall

Thanks! what was the answer for whether the algae eating rate would change, for the fungi question? the options were that it would increase, stay the same, or decrease i think. I left it blank

also the question for the minimum amount of nucleotides needed to make 100 amino acids - I put over 300 but I was between that and 250.

@ramenforlife‌ i did 300 but am not 100% sure. What was the independent variable in the clam experiment with the sea water and food?

it was more than 300 because 100*3(per codon) + extra. Independent variable was the salinity. Permafrost question and general difficulty of this exam in comparison to others?

What is the most diverse species? Angiosperms, gymnosperms, ferns, mosses, or something else? I put angiosperms - complete guess.

Which enzyme digests meat first? It was either pepsin (found in stomach and digests protein) or amalyse (found in mouth and digests carbs)? I put amaylse because meat has some carbs?

wait… wasn’t one of the options arthropods?

I don’t think so…

the most diverse was arthropods. i also said pepsin @JohnSmith52‌ . thanks @AznStevy‌ i wasnt sure because i know some codons can make different amino acids – like instead of 64, it was 61 different codons – again not sure though.

@AznStevy‌ for the permafrost q I put the rising oil after the glaciers thawed. I wasnt sure I guessed. Overall I didnt think this test was bad at all. It matched pretty well to my PR book. I was really worried because I looked through a 2003 Kaplan prep book and it had so many specific details…

ALSO there were like no hormone questions! or circulatory questions thank god

there was this diagram of a cell going through protein synthesis and we had to label mature mRNA. That’s the RNA in the ribosome right? (not the one in the nucleus?)

yeah thats what I put @hsperson123‌ . the first 3 questions were tropical rain forest, north coniferous forest and tundra right? i was stuck on those

3 more questions:

A embryo for some reason cannot under go apoptosis (cell death). Will that cause…
-cleft palate
-webbed feet
-some other stuff
-or in proper development (this is what I put…because it’s so general I think no apoptosis will cause improper development)

There was another question about general characteristics of invertebres…I don’t remember the answers

And finally where is RNA synthesized? The nucleus? Because ribosome is protein synthesis.
