***Official May SAT Biology E/M Discussion***

and for clams/algae I chose something that had to do with enzyme activity? I might be wrong. What do you think?

molecular people, what did you guys get for the last question? it was weird. I put carbohydrates, amylose, and cell wall.

Especially for #99. The only choice that was not a polymer was phospholipid, but then it only contains Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen with a 2H-1O ratio (typical carbohydrate), so I was like dafuq??

for the ecology section what did you guys say for the plankton in the photic zone question
C) sulfur exceeds 100 part per 1000 water
D) something about light penetrates into the depth

I thought this was such an obscure test. I studied the Barron’s book inside and out but there were questions on this test that weren’t even remotely suggested in the book. I was about to do E but it looked harder than M so I did M.
I’m really hoping they have a decent curve on this test…

I really hope the curve is decent…
From the general consensus though, seems like most people though it was med/easy.

for the clam question, my reasoning was that because temperature increased, enzyme activity would also increase (because 3 degrees is not enough to denature enzymes) and that the clam would consume more or something

@UncleGene6 i had the same except i said cellulose; don’t know what amylose does, but cellulose is what makes up the cell wall

what about the question regarding muscle movement. I know some of the choices had actin and myosin or something

^I thought about that and I thought I don’t eat more in summer than I do in winter, so that’s maybe not the case.

What I put: (I don’t know if they’re right)
Chemobacteria
Permafrost affecting diversity of species (the broadest answer there)
Pepsin

increase in temp from 15 -18 increases O2 (I thought inc in temp was an inc in solubility and thus an inc in the dependent variable (O2))

MOLECULAR SPECIFIC:

Gel Electro:
1
4
3

Carbohydrates
Glycogen (this is wrong)
Capsule (this is wrong)

@thearcanine‌ oh actually it’s probably cellulose because amylose might not have a 2H-1O ratio

@drake128 i said same for permafrost (but i don’t think that one was right). I agree with the rest except for gel electro. I think the order was 1,3 ( there were 2 As), 4 (4 segments total)

@satchief i put that actin and myosin moved with each other

That’s what I put too, but does that description (myosin and actin move with respect to each other) matches what happens in this picture?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6e/Sarcomere.svg/775px-Sarcomere.svg.png

i thought the temp increase one was no effect…:(…oh well

^nobody’s sure about that one yet :)

how about the darwin question?
it was pretty simple, but I might be wrong 0.0

I put slight differences allow survival and reproduction.

@aznstevy same here

How about the enzyme in digestive systems? Was it 37 degrees or substrate-reactant? I put substrate-reactant because fish, birds, and reptiles might have different body temperature.
