Official Midd 2010 Decisions Thread

Decision: Accepted!

Nice.. I ended up going 10 for 11 with acceptances.. which is also not-so-nice, because now I'm very much torn. I think right now, my decision is coming down to Midd, Princeton, Duke, WashU, W&M, or Richmond. hm.

At any rate, big congrats to everyone who was accepted. And to those attending, that was a pretty kickass video on the Class of 2010 website. :)

My interview was excellent, so this is kinda a bummer. I was waitlisted at Claremont McKenna, my other top choice lac, so this kinda sucks. I know the reason I was waitlisted at cmc thought was because this other girl at my school got in for swimming, but I'm just kinda bummed here. God this is 3 wait lists now!!!

Do we recieve any package from midd?

Accepted! I love midd!

Rejected. Not too concerned though, I wasn't going to attend anyway.

What's the best way to get to middlebury???
I am an international and going by plane

Decision: Waitlisted
i wonder what percentage of waitlisted is admitted each year.

acceptance - fly into Burlington Int'l Airport and get a ride down to Midd (it's like a 50 minute drive). Midd has a first-come, first-serve courtesy van service for the preview days, they might have that all the time, but I'm not sure. It shouldn't be hard to arrange for transportation down to Middlebury though.

I was accepted but I have to admit that I kind of applied to Middlebury on a whim. I haven't even visited the campus. I also got a full ride to another good school. I don't want to count Middlebury out though. I was just wondering what those of you who had visited it thought about it. Is it really as good as it sounds in the brochures? I am really interested in the language program (I'd like to major in Italian), but the cold winters and small town setting kind of turned me off. I don't know what to do!

Is it send by fedex/dhl??

Accepted. Not excited at all, since my pot of excitement has totally been emptied by the other earlier acceptances.

I won't be going, so maybe I'll free up the waitlist a little.

THIS IS UNFORTUNATE NEWS FOR ALL THOSE WHO DIDN"T GET IN:
seems like they really care about rankings and high scores more than a good fit

I saw this article and the following quote from the article is in regard to a conversation among adcoms at Middlebury.

"The committee's longest discussion was about a math genius with weak social skills. The young man's tests scores were impressive -- a perfect 800 on the math SAT II and scores nearly as high on verbals. He'd earned straight A's in his school's most challenging math and science courses and dominated math competitions with outstandingly good computation skills.
However, there were problems in his file. The boy had flunked at least one class and consistently drew low ratings on PQs -- personal qualities. A school recommendation suggested that the student might need support, socially. An alumni interviewer noted that the boy came across as unenthusiastic during their meeting.
The low PQs prompted numerous questions from the application readers and admissions officers. They wondered: Would the student be better off at a place like MIT? Would a little extra hand-holding -- a carefully matched roommate, say -- be enough to help the student adjust at Middlebury?
And while the applicant won admiration for what the committee agreed was an extraordinary math talent, they seemed to worry that he was academically lopsided. One of the readers was disappointed that both his essays were about math.
In the end, the applicant made the cut. The committee recommended admission"
I find it sort of arrogant on the part of the Middlebury College adcoms to think they could pawn their rejects off on a school of MIT's stature. It seems that the adcoms at this school are perpetuating a stereotype about MIT that is undeserved. It is impossible to believe that this applicant had any chance at all at MIT. Kids with perfect SAT's are a dime a dozen in the application pool for MIT, they don't need to take those with "issues", and they don't.

flybynight--first of all, I think you're misreading the article. They aren't trying to pawn a kid off on MIT. Whether you like it or not, MIT has a reputation for being a haven for kids who are math geniuses. It is, afterall, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Look at the percentage of math and engineering majors at MIT, then look at the numbers at Middlebury. I think it's reasonable to assume that this kid would find more people like him at MIT than he would at Midd. That's all they're saying. Also, there are no quotes around the words, meaning that the journalist is summarizing a discussion. Those are the author's words, not the admission staff's. Midd is one of a handful of top schools that do NOT require SAT scores--it's counterintuitive to assume they are obsessed with scores.

I only had a 2080 and I was accepted. Scores are not everything. I do have a 4.7 W GPA though and I am 1/160 in my class. I was admitted as FEB however.
