Official Middlebury Class of 2019 ED Thread

The Midd thread is quiet this year... Anyways I used to be on this site so much more about 4 years ago when I was applying to prep school (yes, they have a prep school forum lol) and now I'm back for collective high school senior, college-related angst!

So I went to Discover Middlebury last week and I loved it. I've always loved the college for its prestigious language program (language junkie here!). But when I stepped on campus I knew that I didn't want to consider any other school; Midd is for me.

I wanted to start this thread so that all us ED-ers can unite and worry/ be excited together, so feel free to post away and share your Midd experiences :)

I’m applying to another school ED I, but if I’m rejected or deferred, I will be applying to Midd ED II :)

Haha, I just submitted my Early app to Midd! Fingers crossed!!
Anyone else doing ED I?

I applied ED earlier today!

I applied ED I! I agree, Middlebury has such a cool environment. Hands down the best college I’ve seen with rigorous academics but also a relaxed rural feel to the place.

I applied ED!! So nervous for the decision!!

We’re getting closer! 22 more days until decisions are posted!!
What are your prospective majors btw?

I want to go in as a Psych/ Education Studies major. (BUT, I’m totally interested in their language programs.)

(I hope you don’t mind if I continue to chime in…) I currently want to double major in education and English and minor in either German or theatre… That will probably change a bit as the years go on, though :)

Hi I’m applying ED1 to Midd as well. Very nervous about decisions…does anyone want to post stats? Also, is Midd a school that looks at diversity as a plus as opposed to say other schools which try to filter out asians?

Applied ED1! Attended Disco Midd, social studies major, 33 ACT, 3.5 gpa, class not ranked, alumni interview.

Ethnicity: Chinese Asian

Could not get an interview…

Major: Psychology
Strong EC’s (Violin, Piano, Girl Scouts (Gold Award!), Varsity Soccer and Swim, Choir, etc.), Strong Letter of Recs
Fair share of Awards and stuff…pretty average.

I’m hoping to major in French with a double minor in bio and german (or russian).

Applying ED1. I’m interested in German, history, and environmental studies.
2270 SAT (690 M/800 CR/780 WS)
4.05 WGPA, ~3.75 UWGPA
School does not rank, but I’m borderline top 10%

Some pretty interesting ECs, but nothing too spectacular. I’ll probably get Deferred.

I have applied ED I to Middlebury College, so I was hoping someone would chance me based on my credentials.

From Lahore, Pakistan.

SAT II Math Level 2 + Physics: awaiting scores

CIE O Level grades: 6A, 1A, 2B
A Level transcripts contain consistent As and the occasional A
Top 5-10% in my class.

Common app essay: Excellent (based on feedback from my counselor, seniors etc). Based on football, my strongest co curricular
Supplement: Middlebury doesn’t have a writing supplement

Counselor rec: I haven’t seen it but I’ve heard he writes really good recommendations.
Teacher recs: One is from my O Levels English teacher and that’s excellent. The other is from my current Physics sir and that’s really good too.
Peer rec: My friend at Swarthmore College wrote a peer rec for me.

Co-curricular activities:

 1. Football (soccer) - Member of the school team, member of the local football team, former member of MTFA (Pakistan’s leading football academy). Have won numerous trophies including the Punjab Olympics
 2. Debates/MUN - Member of the school’s English parliamentary debating team. Have reached a couple of tournament finals. Ranked in the top 10 speakers in some tournaments. Won a Best Delegate award at a MUN as well.

 7. Member of the school’s media society
 8. Former member of the school’s table tennis team
 9. Ranked in the top 50 in the All Pakistan Math Olympiad.

I got called for an interview with an alumni and that went really well too.
Being an international student, I’ve asked for a huge amount of aid.

What do you think my chances are? I am skeptical about my SAT score.

I’d like to know who else has applied ED I to Midd and an overview of their credentials if that’s not too much to ask.

Forgot to mention, I am captain of the local football team.
Intend to major in either Economics or Literature, both being really strong at Midd I hear.

I thought I might as well…

GPA: 3.29 UW (yeah I go to a hella hard private school but I had an improving trend)/ 4.06 weighted

ACT: 32 (superscored)

SAT: 1990 (did not submit)

SAT IIs: none

Ethnicity: Pakistani American

Location: Missouri

Senior Year course load: AP Bio, AP Spanish, Calc (AP calculus is impossible at my school…most kids have Cs), English and Stats

Extracurriculars: I was junior class president, a student court representative my sophomore year, and I am editor in chief of the newspaper this year (I was opinions editor last year and have been writing for it since 8th grade). I also co-founded a non for profit annual bike ride with my brother that raises money for public schools without sufficient funds for textbooks. I have done bike trips every year. I have about 103 hours of community service. Bank of America Student Leaders program 2014.

Essay: I talked about how biking has shaped me into who I am today…it help me overcome obesity and also do really great things (bike across america and europe, along the pacific coast and canada).

Interview: went very well. the lady I met with was very helpful and also very comforting about the process.

Recs: My physics teacher, my english teacher, and the other co-founder of the charity I’m involved in

Honestly I’m really nervous. my gpa is not stellar at all. I visited Midd and fell in love but I am not sure if I will be accepted. however, good luck to everyone. you all seem very well rounded and intelligent people.

9 days left! Haha the stress is killing me!!

It’ll be too surreal for me if I get accepted. “Is this really happening?”

I’m expecting them to reject me, or at most, defer me. Chances of getting accepted seem pretty bleak, primarily due to the insane amounts of financial need I have demonstrated. But then again, I don’t think anyone else has ED’d Midd from Pakistan this year so that’s a plus point.

Anxious, impatient, but never stress out. Lol

Good luck everyone! Hope we meet there somehow

Yep, can’t wait! Good luck to everyone!

@isminho I think you have a good shot! Don’t be too anxious!
