^how exactly?

Because they actually do what they claim, look past the statistics, looks past the numbers and find the they person that truly exists.

And probably a bunch of other really cliche things.

And i thought i have taken a lot college classes, independent studies. UNTILL coughing LLL coughing blood

Don't change being White. Only Asians need to change.

Funny, though, from the "accepted" stats posts in this thread, there are as many asian admittees as white admittees...

Hm....It looks like everyone from the decision thread was Asian, he-he-he

No, not at all!

From my count in this thread, it's about 1/3 asian, 1/3 white, and 1/3 other (including Indian, Sri Lankan, and some unlisted).

Of course, it's hard to tell whether that's a truly representative sample, and in fact it probably isn't.

*** Highlights for Children (long time ago) - Oh come on, we've all read this one when we were kids.**

You're so right;) I read it cover to cover every month...and sent stuff in to publish, but it was too long:(

Parents are retired could have been a factor
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:

I had to read the decision like 10 times before I could believe. I loved the tube. Just got it today and found out TODAY. I dont feel like telling people I made it right now b/c i dont want to hear the he got in b/c he's black comment.

I hope people realize that even though my SAT scores are not up to par that I couldnt possibly be as smart as that guy who scored a 2400. Example one: Physics class- Half the class is annoyed b/c I set the curve on every test and the class average hovers around 60%. I score like 20-40 points higher than the kids who scroed SATs in the 32,33,34 and even 35 range. Example 2: one guys has 8 period with me but his GPA this quater is gonna be around 3.3 while mine is gonna be a 3.8 He has an SAT of 1460. My 800 SAT 2 math also shows that the 700 SAT 1 math is a fluke with a 35 ACT math.

So Please dont just assume that I got in b/c i was black.

Well, a 700 math isn't really all that bad to begin with, and according to MIT, they wouldn't consider it anyway since you have a 35 on the ACT math. (Unless you did worse overall on the ACT - I never heard whether they mix scores across both the SAT & ACT.)

In any case, congratulations!

Oh, and if this is who I think it is, happy birthday! (tomorrow=) )

:) Thanks!

Now, clearly you know who I am...shouldn't I get to know who you are? :)

is mit easier to get into for girls?

It's difficult to come up with a conclusive answer to that question. Certainly, the percentage of girls accepted out of the total number of female applicants is higher than the percentage of guys accepted out of the total number of male applicants. However, fewer girls than guys apply to MIT in the first place, and it's often seen that this means that the average girl who applies is more qualified than the average guy because the respective applicant pool is less "diluted" (or whatever more appropriate word one can think of) by underqualified applicants.

Decision: Accepted
Stats:
SAT I: 2000
SAT IIs: Math IIC: 710, Physics 690
ACT: 33
GPA:4.0uw (school doesnt weight, on 100pt scale: 96.05 all AP's and honors)
Rank: school doesnt weight; would say top fifth of 600ish
Other stats (Awards, etc.): AP Scholar, Scholar Finalist National Hispanic Recognition Program
Subjective:
ECs/Community Service/Work Experience: Rowing (1.5 years), Independent Research (2 summers), Camp counselor (1 summer)

Essay: Rocked it.

Teacher Rec(s): My humanities must have been amazing; I had to send the teacher all of my best work from her class. She told me, straight up, that she never had a student like me in her six years at my school. As for the math, she just rocks at writing recs.

Counselor Rec: Good i guess.

Location/Person:
State or Country: New York
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): NYC public high school - specialized school. Sends a lot of kids to the big shots.
Ethnicity: Puerto Rican
Gender: Male
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Endorsement from the lightweight rowing coach. The coach looooovvvvesssssssssss me. Also, Stuart Schmill, on the admissions committee, grew up here in Queens and went on to MIT.
Strengths: GPA, endorsement, essay
Weaknesses: SAT
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: My GPA and transcript must have said a lot, considering that I've only taken AP's and honors courses. The recs must have been great, and that endorsement, I think, really pulled my app through.
Other Factors:
Who knows?
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: All that matters is what happens in the end. If you got deferred, this isnt the end of the world.

I meant, most of the admitted kids were either Asian or CaucASIAN :p

Congrats suarezr1. I got the same SAT as you and I got in also. Looks like MIT looks at much more than numbers.

Deferred....w/e at least now I can play around with the apps a little to see what'll happen since I'll always have Caltech...

I just didn't want to be stuck in a x chromosome drought....
